MLE nose caps

I have two nose caps for the long Lee.

One is crisp and retains most of its oil blackened finish with only a little wear, mainly to edges and corners.


The other shows honest use and is a mixture of its oil blackening in protected areas and the rest showing wear turning a patina.

Wow they look good! Its awesome to see them finished, deffently turned out well. Nice work you did on them.

What did you use to oil blacken them? Motor oil or a hardening oil? Also a wire wheel and sand blaster can age parts pretty fast putting wear in the high spots. I aged a LEC nose cap that turned out well.

Whale oil was what was originally used.

I keep all my used motor oil. Works well. Very dark in a only one or two cycles.

I have found that just about any mineral oil will work, but some better than others. Temperature is key.
