I know back in the mid-late 90s when MNs were cheap and plentiful I clipped off a few bayonet mounting lugs for folks who didnt want the bayo. Just looking at one for sale online, no bayo or lugs (oddly listed as excellent). Just has me wondering how many neutered 44s people have seen out there. Was it common across the country to clip off the lugs?

I got a M44 that had the bayonet was removed and lug was turned. Only way you can tell is the vertical pin slot is visible as it was cross sectioned, and the squarer front sight.

For whatever reason, around half the unissued polish mosins I encounter have been lobbed. I assume it’s because their fit and finish made them attractive cheap hunting carbines.

They also came on the market earlier than the Soviet ones. Milsurps still weren’t really appreciated in the 90s and most the bolt actions were still seen as obsolete technology in comparison to the semis, good only as a hunting gun or a cheap plinking firearm.
