i was just wondering what base do most of the guys use on there 338lapua's.
are they 0 MOA OR 20MOA. i know it is all about how long your shooting and how much MOA adj your scope has in it.
lets say you pushing a 300gr SMK @ 2800fps and you shoot 100 to 1500 yards. with a scope that has 80-100 MOA adj.

if you dont have either right now id put on a 20moa base, you will to get it zeroed at 100yds still, and its always nicer to have more "up" adjustment then not as opposed to having to hold over.

0-1500yds 20MOA base
Anything more than that and just install a set of barret EX-Rings with the adjustable pin from 15-40MOA (30mm rings) above the 20MOA base you have.

I have a 338LMI with a 20MOA base and the barret 34mm EX-Rings set at 20MOA and zero at 200Meters with a max range of 1920Meters. To go further it's simply a matter of changing the pin from the 20MOA to the 30MOA setting and away ya go.

40 MOA base

I'm using a 40 MOA base, zero is at 300m. With a 20 moa base, to reach out to 2400 yrds, I needed all the elevation in a NXS 8 X32 scope, along with all the hash marks, and had to 1/2 the power. I parked the 40 MOA and don't mind that the zero is 300m..... After all, even 300m is short for a .338LAI.
