In regards to the ‘plastic you are correct. I have great faith in my heavily used Cx4; no qualms at all in regards to having ‘plastic and ammo that close to my face’ to miss quote Ronin…

A couple of quotes from the Armalite AR 180B manual that give me pause, however…

“Warning, do not allow rifle to drop open. The pivot pin area might be damaged”, as well as the “Breakout of the front of the receiver is not covered by warranty” give me a bit of a pause. That, and the picture posted in another thread (by you, if memory servers correctly…) of the front pivot pin blown to s**t after mounting the mother of all 12 ga to the u/s of the forearm…?

As I said in your ‘alum receiver’ thread (how goes that ‘manu of the alum lower’ concept, by the way…) I’m looking to procure this rifle, but further investigation suggests the ’14 can ‘dress up nice’, regardless of it’s knitting needle barrel, and if I can source that cool looking wannabe Sage chassis, that’ll be the way to go, in spite of it not taking the LAR 15 mags…

After all, bein’ able to hang a beer cooler and cappy machine off the front end of your hikin’ gun is what it’s all about….teclaydon’s rig has all the M4/AR15/M up your hoop AR knock off wannabes beat to rats**t, far as my books go…

Though Hitzy's comments just now means I need to revisit that aspect of the '14. Hadn't heard about that before....though I knew the system was 'different'...

Doesn't the 180 have a plastic lower?? that would turn me off right there..
The new mini 14 is supposed to be a pretty accurate gun,i'd go with that

I like the way that the AR180B is crap because of the plastic reciever but the Tavor and HK SL8 are the greatest thing since sliced bread, I guess the fact that they have way more plastic and cost about three times as much as an AR180b make them so.

All front pivot damage is covered by Armalite. Break your front pivot, new reciever no charge.

As for mount a 12 guage, well no ####. Of course it broke.

As for hanging stuff off your rifle, mine has a free floated rail hanging off it. It has had flashlights, lasers, grips, and grenade launchers hung off it. I have had my rifle for over 3 years now and have complete confidence. You people need to trust me, my rifle is not babied! It is not a range queen. It has bounced around in the back eat of a truck for 2 years straight. It has fallen off moving quads and even survived an IED attack in A'stan.

Ok, maybe not the last one. :D

THANK YOU SILVER BACK! Most of the people who seem to hate the AR180B probably own Glocks.

Armedsask:
That last post (#44) wasn't directed at you, FYI...

Tryin' to put together the 'dress me to the hilt' list, cause THAT is what havin' your house paid off is all about...Time, and cash, to play, after 30 yrs of sloggin...

That alum lower of your's is sweet...are you getting closer to 'wanna do it'..'?

I've had very early talks with a possible manufacturer to make a small run of the lowers. The problem right now is I lack funding and the time to refine the design. It will pretty much have to wait until the end off summer. I work full time all week and then I'm usually off some where every weekend.

Plus the rumor mill may have killed the lower already.

It's crap because it's 70's plastic..not modern stuff..they've come along way since those days

So what you are saying is that all the currently sold AR180B recievers were manufactured in the 1970's and there is no way that Armalite uses current high grade plastics and new manufacturing, very interesting....:onCrack:

Here is a quote from the Armalite site:

The new ArmaLite® AR-180B™ boasts the best features of the ArmaLite® .223 M15™ and the 1st Gen AR-180™ rifles. The lower on ArmaLite®'s new AR-180B™ is made of a high strength polymer, and features the trigger group and magazine well of the AR15®, so it uses standard AR15® type magazines and repair parts are readily available.

or you could get yourself an xcr, and get the 7.62x39 kit when it comes out. then you'll have 5.56 and 7.62 with a simple barrel and bolt change. Scarecrow should be here shortly to #### on any american made rifle.

Well, I have owned a couple mini 14's and I really like them. There are lots of us who do. They always seem to "get away" from me after awhile, as one just did - but I'll bet anything I'll have another before long. I don't know what it is about them, they actually seem to reach out and grab me as I walk by them on the rack...;) They have proven absolutely reliable, and shoot quite well for me.

The AR-180B is also a fantastic rifle.

In my opinion, you can't go wrong with either choice. But by all means, get one soon and start enjoying it while they are still non-restricted. It seems we can never be sure what is around the next political corner.

Anyone heard of an estimate of what the 7.62x39 conversion kit may cost?
