Mockup of a Henry Mare's Leg with a full stock

That I can understand, though I'm personally not terribly interested in a gun that holds less than 10 in the tube. I have revolvers in 44 or 45 for that.
The historical significance of the “mares leg” was the Henry repeating rifle came out in 1860 and although smith and Wesson started making a cartridge revolver in the 1850’s, colt and most other pistol manufacturers didn’t start producing one until 1870’s due to the smith and Wesson patent on through bore cylinder. There was a very short period of time (civil war through 1860’s) when the vast majority of revolvers available were cap and ball and not quick to reload during a gun fight. In the American west guys would apparently buy a repeating rifle and cut it down so they could carry it like a pistol and have something that could be loaded and reloaded more quickly than a cap and ball revolver. They became pointless after 1873.

In the US the minimum barrel length for all rifles (regardless of semi auto or manual action) is 16”. Lever action rifle companies wanted to sell a short barrelled rifle and customers didn’t want to register their rifles with the ATF as an SBR so they sell them with no stock so they are legally a pistol, not a rifle. The “mares leg” name probably came from a John Wayne movie because that’s what he called it.

44 mag, full length stock, standard loop lever and wrapped the brass in a camo skin.

I don't want to pee on anyone's parade, but isn't there something in the Firearms Act about certain things having to be "Factory Stock"?
My understanding was that the Mare's Leg is under 26", but that's cool because it comes that way from the factory. But if you alter it, even to make it longer, you violate some reg?
Same as if you have a 14" barreled shotty. If you bend the barrel, you can't just saw off a 30" to 15" to replace it.
Or am I completely "out to lunch"?

You can ad a full length stock to a Mare’s Leg with no laws broken.
However you cannot cut a factory barrel below 18” on a shotgun that is pump action. If it’s semi-auto, the shortest you can cut that shotgun barrel is too 18.5”.
If I’m wrong, someone please correct me…:)

Not quite the way it works. No problem putting the longer stock on.

There is something a bit illegal by coming to a OAL below 26" by means of a telescoping or folding stock if it is still able to be fired IIRC.

But the Mare's leg style guns are around 24-ish inches and not designed to be fired one handed, so they got a pass on that.

For the barrel length on a lever action rifle, you could replace a long barrel with a very short one, that is made from the factory at that length, but if I recall right, you have to keep it 26" or more .

I really like that! It looks sharp. It looks like something the seven dwarves would use to run off claim jumpers for their diamond mine or whatever it was.

Some more info, photos please. The other side with the load gate.

Did you just add a reg wrap on this, or have someone do this?

I love the mares leg, just can't get a fancy to the brass look of it though. Tried several others in the mares leg, but they just don't compare to the Henry in style and fit and function. Just cannot get myself to like all that shines brass.

If its just that simple to wrap it, that might be my easy simple solution to that brass.

Thanks.

It's easy to artificially age or blacken the brass too.
