Hey guys,

I have seen some great pics of AK47 grips to fit a CZ/VZ58. I really like the look of the TAPCO SAW style AK grip. But is it hard to mod the AK grip to fit the VZ?

Those of you who have done it, let me know.

No very easy with a dremil or file take your time and you might need a new screw depending on what grip you get. Some grips all you will need it an exacto knife to fit it. ;)

I don't have an original stock to compare it to, would it be helpful to have a pic of the inside of an original grip? I am not inexperienced at modding; I have modded some gun stuff in the past - what do you guys think?

What it really comes down to is trial and error.

I didn't have much experience either when I started modifying parts to fit my CZ 858. The first grip I fitted to CZ I started out by just trying to see if the mount it as is. When that didn't work, I would inspect the grip to see what exactly was preventing it from fitting. Here's a small list of problems you may encounter and possible solutions:

- Grip screw does not reach the nut/not long enough -> Drill the the base of the grip (if possible) so that the head of the screw and washer sit further down, or purchase a longer screw.

- Angle of the hole for the grip screw does not line up with the nut in the receiver -> With a drill and a dremel bore out the hole to make it a little wider at the top so that you can move the screw around to line it up with the nut.

Note: some polymer/plastic grips may be hollow which would make this a lot easier to do I figure. My experience modifying grips is limited to wood.

- Top of the grip does not fit into ferrule -> Sand down the grip to fit it to the ferrule or with a dremel tool remove the ferrule.

All in all you just have to take your time and be analytical about what you are doing. Every grip is different, there is no set procedure for fitting AK grips to a VZ.

Thanx 4 saving me all that time typing Jacko832 ;)

I Haven't done it, but I looked into/explored it on my "For your viewing pleasure ,My artistic take on the Cz carbine" thread. Currently on page 5 of this forum, with one of the plastic hollow AK grips.

to summarize, you'll need an AK grip screw (if you don't already have one), and you'll need to do something to the AK pistol grip or oval shaped base on the rifle to prevent the grip from going crooked as you screw it on. When I looked into this, I had hoped that the screw tension alone would keep the grip sitting straight---which turned out to be wishful thinking.

I will have an AK grip fitted for a CZ-858 soon!

I am going to be purchasing another member's CZ later today and its included with the package....

PM me if you guys are interested!

The Hogue AK grip is easy to mod if you are at all interested in that. It just requires some cutting down of the rubber where the grip meets the pistol grip groove. I couldn't imagine putting anything else on now that I have it, whatever floats your boat though.

Do you have any pics of this? I'd be interested in seeing it.

I do:

No problem, Brownells is where I got mine. To make it fit properly, I first cut it down a bit around the top with an exacto blade, then sanded it with a fine grit to make it look pretty.

It fits, made a little mess with the exacto knife, going to have to sand it later... the lip in the back is not in the groove, may have to cut it off but I think it will function properly as is.
