I was thinking of adding a scope to my Mosin but after looking for a proper mount, I realised that it might be better if I bought a Savage Axis instead.

What are your thoughts?

Thanks

Milsurp forum so not going to find a lot of support for altering a gem... I think if I could find a mosin that shot as well as an axis, I'd leave it alone too. Slapping a scope on a Mosin that doesn't shoot as well as an axis might prove to be an expense not worth investing in.

How many yards do you guys normally use your Mosin for?

If you want a Mosin with a scope, buy an authentic sniper. Durham Outdoors and P&S Militaria both have them in stock.

I usually shoot my infantry rifles at 100m and 200m. Minute of man (sized target) you're good to 600m or more depending on the rifle and shooter combination.

(can't help myself) body mass of western imperialistic pig at three hundred arshins...(-2 arshins for rifle n' bayo)

My hunting shots have never exceeded 50m, and any local that tells you of their 300m shot did it over a lake, or pond. Most of my target shooting (all rifles) is 100m. If that is consistent I'll travel to places that allow for 200M and 300M, and have never really tried going past that seriously.

You're not going to save money by putting on a scope on a mosin if the alternative is buying a used entry level hunting rifle. And the hunting rifle will be more accurate out of the box without needing some modifications.
