Hi gents,

I have an opertunity to buy a M1885 Remington Lee, the price is $1000. I have never seen one forsale online or in person; does anyone know the approximate value of these rifles? Bolt matches, wood is average but complete, no cleaning rod, light pitting, average bore.

Cheers.

That's a very good price - I see them going for much higher on the US sites. USN marked? I'd take it and run at that price. I passed on one years ago for $1500 and have regretted it since.

$1000?

1885 Remington-Lee?

I have a copy of the Criminal Code here and have been reading it. It details something like 600 pages of indictable offenses, MOST of which I would cheerfully commit, simply for a chance to take one apart and play with it for an afternoon.

The early Remington-Lee rifles, the 1879 and the 1885, are absolutely critical to understanding the course of evolution of the Lee System. NO other rifle has been in continual production and use for 136 years.

Go get it! And then treat us all to a proper photo tour.

The Calgary Shooting center has one for about $750. Last time I played with it the bolt head came off though.

there was one at the Calgary spring show in 45-70 in nice shape for $850.00 back in the day I had one in 303 . loads of British proof marks on it. possibly a trials rifle.
