hey all, hoping that some of the guru's here can lend a hand. i just recently purchased a 1892 revolver that was advertised as being a 7.5mm, after doing some research it seems to me that all of the Model 1892 Revolver's came in 8mm lebel so i'm left a little stumped on this one. i don't have the gun in hand yet so there is no way that i can slug the bore, but i was wondering if anyone has heard of another cartridge that these revolvers were configured for. i'm hoping its chambered for the 8mm since it is still available. thanks!

Only the M1882 and M1882/29 Swiss Ordnance revolver used the 7.5mm cartridge (7.5x23R)... aka "7.5 Swiss Ordnance"
The M1895 Swedish Nagant revolver also used a very similar cartridge, with only a slightly larger diameter bullet.

The M1892 Lebel revolver used an 8mm rimmed cartridge (aka 8mm French Ordnance). You are in luck, as this cartridge is still produced by a few Euro manufacturers (Fiocchi, Prvi, etc.)
Of course, it's probably more cost effective and more versatile if you handload.

From wiki:
Actual bullet diameter: 8.38 mm
Case length: 27 mm
Cartridge length: 36.7 mm

European calibres are/were frequently expressed as distance between lands, not grooves. Could this explain the discrepency?

Lets not forget the M1887 Nagant made primarily by Husqvarna. It also uses the 7.5 ctg.

8mm French Ordanance ctg. used a bullet closer to .330" dia. were the 7.5 Ordinance ctg. used projectiles of .317"-.325" dia.

The factory ammo is somewhat expensive and some had problems recently with it not being reliable. Best to reload. Brass 32-20 trimmed and sized. I use winchester. remington is good too. That I can help you with. Bullets best from Jethunter. Powder trailboss primers are small pistol. CCI or Winchester will work. Any questions PM me. Will get you all help needed to get this going.
