Well with SOH showing us his M12, I thought I'd show off the recent M1897 acquisition, and my #### photography. It's a December of 43 gun, fantastic shape, a text book example & one the ones that received a riot gun barrel turned and modified to trench gun specs.

Cheers

Nicely done Pat! This has got to be one of the best M1897 trench guns in Canada. Overall it's just superb.

Hey, if you feel like sending it to Ontario, I can photograph it properly. :nest: :dancingbanana:

Very Nice Indeedly!
And unlike the now discontinued Norinco clones, these actually work as advertized.

I wonder if we will ever see a quality replica?
The demand would not the that great, but there would be opportunity to sell them.
Maybe Winchester could make a special limited run.

Geez...been around a fair # of those at cowboy matches and have not seen any real problems with them. They are not as "smooth" as most originals, they are just "new and tight" from not having a few thou rounds thru them over 50 or 60 yrs..

Ahem, it was the trench gun replica on feeding/firing the third shot that was promblematic. This subject is regarding the trench gun right?

And please tell me how many cowboy matches include three shots from a shotgun?

Am I to understand to steer clear of the Clones? I've always wanted one, or if someone comes out with a Remington mock up, I wouldn't miss the slam fire...much.:)

That particular model, the copy of the Winchester trench gun, and the Norinco trench gun copy only, was the one that deserved some negative reports.
I found this out from a youtube channel covering trench guns & replica trench guns.
The subject of the other Chinese Winchester 1897 copies never was really discussed. This discussion was opened while discussing the newer Inland/Ithaca trench gun, that has zero issues according to him.

Cheers!

umm...youtube might be a little off on this one from what ive seen, and I have been around both being used at cowboy and wildbunch matches (where they do fill em up and have att'er) and they all seem to work equally well. The trench models only differ from the cowboy clones with a hand guard or two and bayo lug as far as I could see.
