Another beautiful piece..... :)

Nice find ... :)

I just posted a similar message in hunterhenderson's thread about his recent find of a 1908 Brazilian in excellent condition.

I collect and shoot South American Mausers. There seems to be a lot of these old girls appearing lately. I wonder if someone sold off a large collection someplace.

I have several 1909 Argentines (7.65x53) in similar condition with matching bayonets and scabbards. One of my better finds was a 1909 full military Argentine sniper rifle, mounted with a matching 1927 Nedinsco-Zeiss 4x31 riflescope. Like the Brazilians, they are also fine examples of Mauser workmanship, but the caliber is a little odd.

Badger

Augh...I wish I had one of those because I would be using it to shoot myself in the foot for not buying it! I passed on an unfired '08 Brazillian Mauserfor 250 bucks with 100 rounds of ammo! If I had only known...

Badgerdog, If and when you decide to liquidate your collection, can I come?

They say when they were imported, 3 rifles (with cosmoline) were packed in a big zinc "sardine or oyster can" with the metal key for unwinding and coiling the thin metal strip around the can.

I wonder if thats how they were shipped from DWM in Berlin to Argentina, or if they were repacked like this in Argentina for the trip to North America?

She's a beauty for sure. I also have one of those long-barrelled rascals, a Brazilian contract Model 1935 made at Oberndorf with the very cool Mauser banner. Have an un-issued Model 30 FN Venezualan contract as well, both are 7X57. Have an excellent Argi '09 bayonet for sale if interested.

There's a good write up about the 1909 Argentine in the Guns and Ammo Surplus Firearms Issue that came out last fall. You can get it online at Guns and Ammo too, if you don't have the magazine.

Wow, cool.

With a hacksaw and a drill you could turn that clumsy old clunker into a real nice truck gun.;)

My inner bubba is salivating.

Here's mine:

IMHO, the most beautiful Mauser ever made, both to look at and to handle. The M71/84 is a close second.

South American Mausers

I have quite a few South American Mausers and I really like them.
International used to sell the Brazilian M-1908 and the M-1935 NEW in the cosmoline with sling, matching bayonet, muzzle cap, and factory target for the whopping price of $159.95.
If they were coming into the country now for that price most collectors would sprain their fingers on the key pad, trying to order them on the phone.
I wanted one so bad back then but money wasn't plentiful. I have a sad story to tell about a guy I know that liked 7mm rifles, this happened about five years ago. This guy ordered a new 1935 Brazilian with matching bayonet sling and muzzle cover, for $450. Listen to this, he sent the gun to a gunsmith to sporterize it. Had a new stock made or ordered for it, shortened the barrel drilled and tapped it for a scope changed the bolt handle and literally made a new gun out of it. The bill for the custom work, and the gun combined works out to $1300 to $1400. He still has an army rifle cut down to a sporter, he could have bought any dam rifle he wanted for that kind of money. I would have traded one of my 7 X 57 Bruno's for it. I nearly puked when I heard him tell someone about it. This guy was an American and now I know why terrorists want harm them. I have the bayonet that was on the gun and it was mint when he got it, but he had it in his garage on a shelf and it got some dark spots on its blade.
Dam I have been looking for one of them for years.
Anyone out there want to trade a nice Brazilian 1935 for a Springfield 03 or 03A3? I have a few American rifles in my collection Krag carbine, O3's and 03A3's M1 rifles, M1 carbines, P17's and a few others, will check on my duplicates. Just thinking out loud.

I hate to admit it now, but in the early 80's I bought a couple of dozen NEW 1909's and stripped them for their actions!

Well, it was a long time ago and you were young and foolish, so we forgive you ........... :D

But, you at least have to buy the first round at any gathering of the clan ... ;)

How big was the DWM contract for Argentina (Mod. 1909)?

Hi partner...... :)

The production figures shown are based upon a complete set of acceptance receipts, invoices, insurance records and shipping documents:

Summary of Model 1909 Argentine Rifle Production by Year

1909 3,000 Serial # A0000-A2999
1910 102,000 Serial # A3000-K4999
1911 25,000 Serial # K5000-M9999
1912 30,000 Serial # M6999-P9999

Total = 160,000

Source: Argentine Mauser Rifles 1871-1959 by Colin Webster ISBN: 0-7643-1868-3.

There is more information, including the ships that delivered various quantity sizes, so by knowing a specific serial number, one could do some quick math and figure out the name of the ship and date it arrived on.

Hope this helps...... :)

Badger

I understand you have a Argentine bayonet for sale. Is it a 1909 or a 1891 bayonet (I am looking for both the 1909 or the 1891 with the brass handle ). How much are you asking and can you send me any pictures? My Email is zem@shaw.ca Thanks

Dean
