He'd have been deadly with a scoped Ross in WW1.

Target Rifle shooters shoot at 1000y using iron sights, albeit target style peep sights. Shooting with iron sights has become somewhat of a lost art unfortunately. In the day, DCRA shooters were using No4 Mk1* rifles for this discipline.
