Model 29 classic seems hard to find?

I have a 5" Model 27. I can see where that barrel length is considered a favorite. It needs the tapered profile though, I used a Model 24 with that profile as well, balanced very nicely in the hand. I don't find that the 5" full target barrel profile balance nearly as well. Might just be me, however. - dan
 
Made in 1976. Just cleaned her, so the white lint is from the cloth, my camera shows up everything. The screws for the side plate are rusted on lol. I hear a rattle inside but cant get the screws out to check, its seems to operate fine.

From what little experience I have with one in that length, it just 'felt' better. There is something "just right" about a 5" N Frame:

Mine isn't one of the very rare factory 5" guns, but rather a 29-3 with a shortened barrel.

dan & tjhale:)If I had to pick a favorite length for an N-frame, 5" would be it. The ivory grips on my 4" 29 were originally on a 5" nickel plated 27 a shooting buddy of mine has recently purchased. He keeps 'telling' me, those grips belong on that 27 but I repeatedly correct him by stating, "they're on the gun they belong on". The funny part of it is,;) the grips were initially offered to him before they were offered to me. ;)You snooze you lose.

GunGuy34, congrats. :)Looks good. I never tire of seeing the variations of the 29. Heaven forbid but if we were only allowed one handgun, the 29 would be mine.

geez, that is a 8 3/8 inch barrel is pretty sweet. might be a nice complement to my 4.2....

After shopping local and afar I have decided to get a nice vintage 29-2. Nothing wrong with the new classic, but after doing some reading and considering how much this gun will be shot, finding a nice 29-2 was what I needed to do.
All I have to do now is wait for it to get here. My friend has suggested some milder hand loads for the shooting I will be doing and I will be following that advice.
 
I jumped on it as the last couple on EE were only there for a few hours. Glad I beat you to it!
I know its mostly cosmetic as modern cases are unlikely to come apart, but I really like the look of the recessed cylinders. Is the cutout on the left stock for loading?

Didn't read all the threads. When I hear this stuff about the Sw mode 29-2 I like to hear it. I have mine in the factory wood box. Never shoot it just finger it. The gun is mint. Just like the SW 17-4 i have. I bought a older version 44mag Redhawk. love it I shoot full loads out of it and no hiccup awsome gun. but my Queen sits in the factory wood box. Mixed reviews and values on these guns. Maybe some one who is familiar with them can let us know value history. I wouldn't sell my SW 29-2 17-4 and my model 10. I love my revolvers Wouldn't sell my Rugers either. Wheel guns are real Guns LOL love that saying
