Check out my video if you have a moment? Do you agree the Model 31 Remington is the basis of the Mossberg 500?

Mossberg is the Remington 31 your daddy?

The mossberg does share many simularities of the Model 31 but it certainly does not function like a model 31 it's very crude in comparison
certainly and that has a lot to do with profit and mass production but also the customers. Most want a good cheap solid gun. The difference between a new express 870 and wingmaster is a prime example. They are the same shotgun but not really.

Well I guess they are both pump action shotguns
Kind of like saying I own two chevrolets
But one is a corvette and one is a chevette
The model 31 is so smooth and works so well it makes a model 12 look BAD :)

Agreed that the 31 was a fine gun and yes they are fast and smooth guns. Today that fit and finish would be a custom proposition. It is nice to see the design lives on.

Some will say the Mossberg 500 is a remake of the High Standard Flite King which was inspired by the Remington Model 31. I have never had the need to dig into it any further to prove this so don't take that to the bank
I have a couple high standards and some model 31's but no mossberg 500's
Had some years ago but moved them on . Probally because they never had a 28ga ;)
Cheers

A nearby friend owns a 1940 made Ithaca M37 and a 1935(?) made Remington M17. Both in 20 gauge. They came from their grandfather's farm in Upper NY state. Nice shotguns indeed as I got to handle them once, while showing them how to field strip them for cleaning.
