To all,

I am a new member here but I have been a member over at the WACA site for several years now. I have also been conducting a research survey of the Model 1892 rifles and have compiled data on over 4050 rifles in that effort. My aim is to capture 10,000 of these rifles and publishing the results.

A portion of my collecting efforts involves the Model 61 rifles. I have decided to begin cataloging the caliber and barrel configurations of for the entire the Model 61 production run. While chewing off a small, certain unique style may be easier it ends up letting too much good and useful data go past you in the hope of somebody else getting it. I may as well enter it while I have it on the computer screen.

Sooooo.... Open up the safes and please send me the serial number, caliber stamp information for the rifle and the barrel shape style. No photos are necessary for this, just a simple list will do. You can either PM me or send to my email at 2bitrifles@gmail.com Hopefully, this work will shed a tiny bit of light on the overall production percentages of the Model 61 and make a small compliment to the work done in Schwing's book.

I put my dozen rifles on the list and picked up 43 more last night just looking on Gunbroker and GI. There are lots of past auctions to go back and dig into also. As of lunch today the list has grown to 225 rifles. I will need 3000 to 4000 Model 61's to generate meaningful results. I hope you will help me and support the effort. Contact me or post your data here please.

Wish me luck
Michael

It has been almost a month since I started this effort. The response has been quite good and the spread sheet has now grown to 933 rifles. I want to say thanks those who have helped out by sending data on their rifles. I am looking for the serial number, the caliber stamp from the barrel, is the receiver top grooved, and if the gun is a magnum is there a letter "A" below the serial number? My email address is 2bitrifles@gmail.com

Thanks
Michael

You guys have been great helping me out by providing info on your Model 61's and Mode l1892 rifles.
I now have just a few over 1100 Model 61's in that effort and over 4530 rifles in the Model 1892 survey.

Thanks again for all you help.
If you have any questions PM or email me.

Hello once again,

It has been almost ten months since I updated here and I have added another 800 rifles to bring me up to just over 1900.
Thanks to those who have emailed me with the information on their rifles. I have worked on some interim results calculations
and they are posted on the RimfireCentral forum site. The link to that information is here:
Model 61 Interim Results
http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=534703

If anyone wants to participate in this work please feel free to contact me via email, private message or post here. Please send
me the serial number, caliber stamp information for the rifle and the barrel shape style. In addition I am interested if there is a "W"
stamped under the serial number +/- SN 50,000. Is the butt plate checkered steel of black composition? Is the upper tang drilled
and tapped for a peep sight? Is the receiver top grooved for a scope mount?

As always I will be glad to answer any questions you might have. And don't forget I am also doing a huge research project on the
Winchester 1892 lever action rifles.
