Just wondering if anyone here has had a issue with the magazines on the savages? I'm no Gunsmith and new to shooting, I'm on my third magazine with this gun! Purchased the gun two months ago and have put almost 4000 rounds through it already. Maybe i should of purchased a Ruger?

I adore my 64's!

The magazines can wear out but, should take tens of thousands to do it. There was a thread last week about a magazine eating 64.
It's my understanding the fella called Savage so now, he gets to send in the eaten ones and, they'll replace them.

The culprit in that case was the roll pin that holds the extractor in the bolt. It rides right over the right-hand side of the magazine's feed lips. The mags being very soft get eaten.

Check the bottom of your bolt. If the roll pin is sticking out at all you've got an issue. Press it back up flush with the bottom of the bolt and, peen it a touch to keep it there.
Suggesting a Ruger as a replacement is pretty close to blasphemy....

Here's the previous thread I referred to:

I just shot one on the weekend, what a piece of c**p! Almost 3/4" of take-up to a trigger that bottomed out my trigger gauge (72 oz's) The trigger also stuck back on the trigger guard moulding line and had to be reset by hand 8/10 shots till I ground it down a bit. Less than 200 rounds and the mag was screwing up already but I caught the roll pin problem and fixed it for the owner. I didn't even look at the trigger. This is a brand new gun. It makes me glad I am a die hard 10/22 owner not that their triggers are great out of the box but I have never seen one that is anywhere near as bad as this one.

Thanks for all the feedback, not impressed with this model at all! I have other savages and I've had no issues at all with them! My 17hmr has about 2500 rounds through it with no issues to speak of!
