Model 7 in .260 Rem

Any comments on this rifle/cartridge? Is the barrel too short for decent ballistics? Seems Remington has dropped the SS synthetic and some stores are selling them off at a decent price and wonder if it would be a good replacement for a [SIZE=-1]titanium that is no longer available.
Looking for a lightweight deer/elk/moose rifle.

Great cartridge, I prefer the mountain rifle 22" barrel setup personally. It just seems to fit me and balance better than the model 7.

with a 20 inch tube, pushing a 140 @ 2650 fps shoulnt be hard at all. With a premium bullet like a Nosler Partition, it'll dump all the moose and elk in the world, out to 250 yards, with barely more recoil than a 22-250

better than most synthetics, I was somewhat impressed by the synthetic on my buddy's 308 Model Seven SS

How much velocity would be lost from 22" to 20"? I would guess around 50-60fps or so. Not much in the real world.

you're right, no real world difference. certainly nothing an animal getting a bullet through the lungs will notice..

I agree w/ tod...the synthetic stock on the .308 s/s synthetic model I had was very nice. 444, to me the .260 in one of those rifles sounds like a GREAT combination.
