Hey guys I have a classic SS 20" 338 win mag I'd like to rebarrel to a 22-24" 358 Norma. I know there's a little more involved in re-barreling a CRF action and would like a smith who's expertise is re-barreling up Mauser style actions. Any recommendations would be appreciated. Thanks.

Usually the only "more involved" part is cutting the extractor relief on Model 70 pre 64 style actions...

As stated, the only major difference is in the cutting of the extractor slot. If a person wants to true the action, set-up is slightly more problematic but nothing a competent 'smith can't handle. I dislike the interrupted thread found on the \model 70 classics and think they should be re-threaded to 1 1/16x16 tpi; especially if chambered for magnum cartridges and most definitely if in the WSM calibers.

Hey guys, I figured I'd give a bit of an update on the build. So I wanted a Bob Jury barrel for this build(support our Canadian manufacturing) So upon speaking to Bob and discussing the project he recommended Bob Galloway from Custom gunworx. So I have placed a barrel order from Bob(1:12 twist finish muzzle OD of .650 @24") talked to Bob Galloway set up the small list of items to be done. Both Bob J & Bob G are top notch guys in my books. The gun will ship out Monday for the start of the project. I'll let you guys know how it turns out and shoots.Thank you all for your suggestions.

Cheers!
