Model 70 Exreme Weather SS

It really is. In the end, I'd rather a guy lost his mag than his bolt, but that's another issue entirely. My neighbour's brother just died and he went to the funeral then took all the bolts out fo the old boy's guns and put them "somewhere safe". I have a very bad feeling about this decision.

No doubt in my mind you did the right thing here. Losing a bolt would suck for sure. If you lose a mag it's easy enough to turn your rifle into a single shot. If you lose a bolt you better have a bayonet mount!

I bought one in .338 shortly after they introduced the CRF again and have used it for quite a few hunts. Awesome with a Leupold 2.5-8 VX-III. Had a couple inches taken off the barrel and also had it rebedded. The stock is crap though - I have no idea who made them at the time. It would be a much nicer rifle if I put a new stock on it.

Any Model 70 would look really good in a McMillan stock.

I prefer that my hunting rifles not have DBMs. I lost a mag years ago from a Rem760 .300 Savage, and the old mags are getting hard to find....and No, I don't forget my permits, water bottles or thermos.....

Because DBM really sucks and can completely screw up your hunt if you forget or misplace it. The guys that really complain about hinged floorplates are the ones that tend to be in and out of trucks all day. Plus they tend to tuck up nicer than a DBM and look better.

I don't mind DBMs as long as they sit flush with the stock. Otherwise they suck to carry and look tactigoofy.

once you misplace/forget a detachable magazine at home, you will never buy another gun with one again. (this happened to me twice. Once I just forgot the magazine on the kitchen counter, but the other time, it fell out of the gun during a hunt (never found). Both times , my hunt was ruined. People always say to me " it's easier to road hunt and be able to pop out the magazine quickly and put it in my pocket and vice versa to stay legal". I find the drop-plate to be the best scenario for me. You can easily top up the remaining rounds from the top of the gun without removing the mag. You can dump the cartridges into your hand quickly if you need to reload(or unload quickly) and I can also load the gun by tipping it upside down , dumping 5 rounds in there, and closing the floor-plate. I just find that magazines are one more thing to worry about. Kind of like why all my rimfire rifles are tube-magazine guns. Can't lose the mag when it's permanently attached!!!
How did you let being reduced to a single shot ruin your hunt? I take it your not a fan of muzzle loaders?

For everyone's information:

CT in Rocky Mountain House has at least 10 EXT WEATHER SS in stock, from 7mm08 to .338WM. Get ahold of Jay, he usually works weekends there.
