Hi all,

Has anyone here ever cut a regular 22" Featherweight barrel to 19-20" on a short action featherweight? Or have you used the compact model with the factory 20" tube?

How does it affect the balance? The barrel is petty light and wouldnt want to shift the balace too far rearwards and make a butt heavy gun.

It's not broken, so leave it alone. Just IMHO.

Those rifles are purposely designed to be slightly fore-end heavy, to improve balance and aid stability while shooting offhand.

What possible difference is about an ounce of metal and two inches of swing going to make in your hunting style?

I can understand wanting very short rifles when hunting from tree stands in areas where shots are 100yds or less, but that's about it.

The metal you remove by cutting it back 2 inches is just under two ounces. Not enough to make any difference, other than it's at the furthest end of the rifle, which might magnify it's real effect, most likely in a negative manner.

I doubt it will have any effect on accuracy, as shorter barrels tend to be stiffer.

It's just the balance when shooting offhand that may create issues holding steady.

Wife has the compact model with the 20” barrel. It’s a fantastic rifle. Shoots well offhand. For bushwacking I personally haven’t noticed any difference between 20” and 22” barrels. You might lose 50 fps if you care about that.
