Model 70 pre '64 value??**Updated with lots of photo's**

I sold a 1950 in 30-06 last summer for $800 and it was MUCH nicer than this one, with original steel butt plate and no stock cutout for a receiver sight.
If the stock is solid it could be refinished to make a nice using rifle but there's zero collector value in it.
I'd say $600 max.

You should take it apart you will get $500-$700 for the action $275.00 for the stock $150.00 for the bbl $100.00 for the sights In the condition it is in $500-$600 for the complete gun. I have to apologize i exaggerated on the views I only found two 1,734 and 2,591 views.a bit off 3000 but give them time they will get there FWT and Super grades are in a little different market especially ones that are actually described in correct condition.90%+

Digger...I'm not certain what your plans are for this M70, but if the bore is in good shape it's still a nice hunting gun. Is the Lyman receiver sight a 48WJS or a 57WJS. Both versions of these sights were offerred with the round base on the 48 and the short base on the 57, eliminating the need to inlet the stock. If your stock is not inletted, that would be a bonus as it may be worth to lose that horrible recoil pad and order a correct Winchester Patent Dated repro pad from Galazan's ($40 +shipping).

As I said earlier, it's worth the sum of it's parts less time and labor to strip and sell. If you were to buy that gun the way it is for a hunting gun, and only if the bore was good, I'd value it at $600. The recoil pad and the condition brings it to "Fair Condition". But you could, with some elbow grease bring it back a tad. An original stock, in good condition is worth $285 to $325.

I've learned over the years to pay more to start with and wait for a real nice one rather than buy one like this as it'll cost more in the end to try and upgrade and you still won't have a high conditon M70. But it depends on what your figuring on doing with it. It's still a good hunting gun and if that's what you want you wouldn't have to worry over dinging up a top condition Model 70.

Hey guys, thanks for the info. I hadn't seen the gun in 2-3 years and I thought it was in better shape than that. I would to only value it at maybe $500-600. I personally haven't shot it but everything seems to work well. I'm not real up to date with the pre '64 stuff so thank you for your guys info, it is much appreciated. As stated before this is a buddies gun that he is wanting to sell, so I'll tell him what it could possibly be worth and go from there. Thanks again.......

The cut-out modification to the stock for the receiver sight would be the biggest consideration for pricing as well as the condition.

I think the $600 make would be fair. It's a nice rifle and a far better one than you would get new for $600 with more options down the road if you wanted to build a custom one.

I like it. My pre 64 is very well worn, beat up stock, once used as a crutch to walk home and still shoots like a laser. To me it is priceless!

I would guess the Lyman, looks like a 48, was installed at the factory, which was common up until, or past, the date of the rifle.
If this is so, they will have modified the stock and I wouldn't think that would deteriorate the present value.

$600.00- 275 views still for sale with all the interest in it should have sold by now.

Actually the gun was "sold" in about 15min of me posting it for sale. I went to take some more photos and look more closely at the bore etc, but upon arrival the seller informed me he has now decided to keep the gun. I had to tell the potential buyer and a couple other interested parties that he now wants to keep it. Sometimes things happen when you try and help a buddy out....

Good for him. He is no longer consumed by having others tell him what his rifle is "worth" or what it should sell for. Now he can concentrate on learning to shoot the rifle and become one with it. Fantastic decision to keep the ole girl.

Too bad man. I hope your buddy uses it and enjoys it. I wish i had the cash right now to get a nice Pre-64 Model 70 like that. It's pretty much exactly what i'm looking for. I still got to save my pennies for a little while first though. :(
