I have a older model 70 push feed chambered in .308win. I want to re barrel the rifle in a caliber that interests me alot more tHan the old 308. My ideas are 350 rem mag, 338rcm. My limited knowledge comes into play here and I am curious as to what can be done to the bolt face to open it up to accept the larger case diameter. Any suggestions? Has anyone tried this before?

The boltface counterbore would need to be opened out. Most likely an extractor for a belted magnum would be needed. Then there is the issue of getting reliable feeding.

Opening the bolt face of a pushfeed Mod 70 is simple and you can also reshape the little wafer extractor set in the bolt lug to accommodate the magnum case. Reshaping the action rails to feed and hold the cases in place is by far the most difficult task involved in this conversion and best done by an experienced person, as it is easy to screw it up and destroy the action. Ask me how I know this.........anybody want to buy a P17 action to build a 378 Wby or 416 Rigby on, cause that's the only case it will now hold under the rails. LOL
As Dan said a Whelen is a much simpler conversion as is the 358 Win or the 35-284 wildcat (this would be my choice).

Measure the mag length first. The 350 Rem Mag is an inch longer than the .308.

Another priceless gem from the fountain of priceless gems..............

This is a perfect example of the old sage advice......"It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, that to open it and remove all doubt"
