Model 700 custom gun

When it comes to synthetic stocks, the injection molded factory stocks are a workable handle which is durable. They are not worth bedding, in my opinion, because the bedding just will not work out as well as it will in a real fiberglass (or carbon fibre) or wood stock. These stocks are flexible and no epoxy sticks to them very well. Use them "as is". Good synthetic stocks are available from many sources. Pick one which suits your taste stylewise. Well made wood stocks are fine but require a bit more care in use and are more expensive to acquire. Regards, Bill.
Do as Moike says and insist your gunsmith produce groups for you while you watch. Let me know how that works out for you.

In addition, pillar bed the action, it makes all the difference!

I don't care who ya are...that's funny!

If you pick a good gunsmith, the rifle will shoot. Having the smith take the time to go to the range with you and prove to you that it shoots does nothing but add a couple hundred bucks to the cost of your rifle for the "dumbass factor". PLUS his time and expenses to go to the range with you when he could be working for the next client.

If nothing else it might make for a very entertaining response from the smith however when you insist he does it!

Yes....funnier in fact because by the time I bought the gas to go from my place to the gunsmith's, I couldn't afford to pay for the work on the gun !!
 
Here is my take on this "Mountain/Sheep" gun.

New Remington Model 700 Mountain LSS 7mm-08 $900
Ti takeoff stock bedded $250

Having a rifle that will do it all with allot less "noise". Priceless.
 
That would work, but it's way too cheap and easy for me to ever do it! :D

Truth is, that's pretty much exactly what I'd do. That, or buy a Montana , tune it up and call it good.

I have a new remington Sendero 7mm rem mag. I am considering just using that as the basis for the custom gun. Would it work to convert to a 7mm rum sporter magnum guillard barrel with all the work. It is stainless and I would not need to buy a new stock.

The Sendero is an excellent basis. True the action, work the trigger, install a good barrel and bed the action, mount up a good scope and you are away... You need to decide on what barrel length you can live with and then the caliber...

A 7mm Rem Mag will perform very well with a 24 inch barrel... slightly better with a 26 inch barrel.

A 7mm Ultra mag will not perform very well with a 24 inch barrel and for considerably higher velocity needs a 28 inch barrel. This applies to the 7mm STW case as well.

A 7mm Rem Mag is presently feeding fine in that action.

A 7mm Ultra Mag will require alterations to the action and probably a new magazine box or more to make it feed... and then sometimes it is still a problem. I have seen factory Ultra Mags that just did not feed out of the magazine reliably at all.

No alteration to the magazine is required for the 7mm STW.
