When Remington was selling a full line of Lam/SS 700's did they offer them in .338 Win?

And....

The 700's that are chambered in the wsm cartridges, are they based on a short action?

not sure on the 338 LSS...someone must have some old catalogues...I know they did offer 7 Rem Mag, 300 Winny in magnum chamberings....and the Ultra Mags.....

the WSM's are on short actions....

I've read (either here, cgs or 24hourcampfire) that 700s based on WSMs can be sketchy with feeding.

Check it out before you buy if your looking.

If you check the Equip Exch it shouldn't be long before a M-700 .338WM shows up. It's easy to swap out the stock to a laminated stock... does the action have to be SS?

I've got an old M-700 in .338WM. It began life as a BDL. I had the action bead blasted to a matte finish, re-blued and then set in a custom fiberglas stock. It's a great rifle, my favorite rifle really.

RSAUM's and RUM's are fatter than th3e WSM's and feed fine... Careful what you read on the internet

poor feeding 700's in short mags??...never seen one yet...I've owned at least four of them...one I rebarreled to 350 Rem Mag...as well as a a Model Seven 7SAUM rebarreled to 350 Mag....they all feed like they have eyes...

maybe people are thinking of the Win 70's with controlled feed in WSM's...I've heard they aren't the greatest feeders....

and the SAUM,s RUMS and WSM's are all the same OD at the base....give or take a thou or two....

Off topic a bit, my 700 .300WSM fed fine, but scratched the hell out of the brass. A little polishing on the feed rails and all was good.:)

I could see possibly having feeding issues with a custom project using an action that wasn't initially built to feed a wsm cartridge, but any factory rifle I've used has fed them fine, including my Win 70 classic....crf. No problems with it ever. Thanks for all the replies fellas.

We were at the range yesterday morning sighting in a Ruger MkII stainless rifle in 350 Rem Mag and it will not feed from the magazine, period!

Just for the record, I have owned a bunch of them over the years, and this is the only Ruger I have ever seen that would not feed properly.

Anyone else seen Rugers with this problem?

Ted
