Model 700 Rem LH build?

Hi I am looking to build a long range shooter out of my old hunting gun" been in the corner for years " so has anyone built a lefty ? What stock did you use ? I would put a new timney trigger , new barrel , do I need to blue print the action?

This is all new to me so any input would be awesome the cal is a 7mm Rem mag

I have done a few, they are the same as a right hand rifle.

First figure what you want to end up with and how much money you have to spend.

The action in a Rem 700 in 7 mm mag is considered long action magnum, you can see what cartridges are compatible here

As for blueprinting I have left that decision to the gunsmith - do it if it needs it. There may also be work required on the action to make a different cartridge feed dependably.

For a new barrel you need to choose brand, caliber, twist rate, contour, length, finish - these would be based on your decision of what you wanted the rifle for.

Timney triggers are great, the gunsmith can fit this at the same time as they were fitting the barrel.

Stocks, in composite I recommend HS Precision or McMillan, stay away from Bell and Carlson as they fit poorly and warranty is a huge pain in Canada.

Barrels start around $400
Barrel chamber, fit and crown $250
Action work starts around $75
Stocks start around $500
Timney trigger ~ $150

By the time you add tax and shipping you are slightly north of $1500 for a basic build.

The factory trigger can be reworked light and crisp and safe by most competent smiths for $50 or so... a far cry from buying an aftermarket trigger. The action can be trued for $150 or so. Do these things with a quality barrel install and don't look back.

I've owned several Bell and Carlson stocks over the years, both TI take-offs and the current aftermarket offerings. I have had zero problems with any of them. Aside for being a bit heavy compared to a Wildcat Ultralight or McMillan Edge they have been a well made, well fitting stock. The last two I bought off the EE were like new and cost me a total of $500/shipped.

Thanks for all your replies , I think I would stay with the 7mm mag I guess the first thing is to find a smith that would do this for me,stock is a must after searching Macmillan a5 stands out but also read about Robertson stocks ? I think the stock barrel should be swapped out or can it still be good out 1000 yards ? Live in bc any recomondations to send it too?
