Just wondering if anyone has run into this issue in the past.
I recently acquired a Chiappa 1892. After receiving the rifle I disassembled it for cleaning, once the forearm was removed I noticed the barrel was not torqued and was able to free spin right out of the receiver. I plan on taking it to a gun smith, but just wondering if anyone has seen this at all?

I have read of a few chiappa firearms having this issue as their quality control is not the best and is the reason why I stay away from them.I would return it if possible as when the barrel is tightened in place it may not index properly this is unacceptable in a brand new firearm

Not too any options to correct this.
A shim or breeching ring could be fitted so that the sights are top dead center when the barrel is torqued in place. This will probably increase the headspace; might or might not be a problem.
Set the barrel back just under one turn, and rechamber as needed. This will give a first class job of breeching, but the forend and bands will also need attention.
Install the barrel with a good thread locker. Quick and easy/quick and dirty - but should work OK.

I have a 1892 mares leg
Bought it at a Canadian tire - glad they don’t sell guns anymore because I would never buy one again

For me it’s the magazine tube. After about 30 rounds of 357 S&B FMJ, I noticed it had started to move forward, past the muzzle. Thing is I didn’t notice until I got home and was cleaning it up. It still cycled fine. But it had broken the screw on the barrel band.
Sent it out for warranty, they must have chased out the screw and replaced it and sent it back. It did it again. This time I didn’t let it bind enough to break the screw.
I decided to void the warranty and shim it myself. Not worth paying shipping back and forth.
I see the problem was the recessed drill hole (for the tube magazine pin) at the end of the barrel under the muzzle was not centred. So the tube magazine pin was not sitting straight and under recoil from factory loads, was moving.
I shimmed it myself, haven’t had issues and will not buy another chiappa.

Thanks for the replies! Upon further inspection, my mag tub has been creeping on my Chiappa 92 as well. I will see what I can set up to remedy these situations.

Contact Peter at Rusty Wood Trading Company in Mission BC he works on a lot of cowboy action firearms and would be one of the most knowledgeable people on the M92 firearms that I know of.
