Model 94 3030 has arrived ! A couple newbie questions !

HI all,

Just got my Model 94 3030 today.

Action seem pretty rough ( gun has NEVER been shot ) Its also never been oiled.

Just use reg gun oil and drop some around the receiver ??

Anyone from southern ontario know of any ranges that i could target practice with my new 3030 ??

You'll have many years of fun with that.

It's stiff because you haven't used it yet.

A LITTLE gun oil wouldn't hurt but the only thing to get you action as smooth as you think it should be is put some rounds through it.

I've had a MArlin 336 for as long as I can remember and it was made in 51'. Still shoots as true as day one and I'll run 5 - 10 boxes a year through it just playing around.

Have fun with it and remember to cycle that rifle with some authority. Those lever actions aren't meant to be cycled slow. Thaey will jam, on you if you go too slow. :wink:

Thanks ! Ill drop a couple drops and see if that frees it up...

Should i get a new recoil pad for it ... Right now it has NOTHING as you can see... Im sure it doesnt kick alot anyways

It looks like it's a special edition of some sort - personally, i'd leave it stock ie: NO recoil pad.

Curious how much you paid - if it was a lot, I'd just get a beater 30-30 for shooting and leave this one unfired!
 
For a range, Silverdale has pay as you go on the weekends.

As far as recoil, you'll know it after a couple of boxes of factory loads with that skinny little butt and light gun. But then again, I'm a recoil pussy.

I put a dot of moly grease on the sliding link that shows when the lever is open, on the bottom of the bolt where it pushes the hammer back, and on the sides of the bolt.

Then again, maybe you should work the action a bunch before putting moly on it. I've heard that moly can delay parts from wearing in and smoothing out.

I paid $350 ,,,, Too much ? I wanted a light small bush gun for deer hunting... went to a couple gun shops and most were selling used Model 94 for 350 + taxes...and most of them showed moderate wear and tear..... i thought might as well get the new one , and it also is the Commerative Apache edition...

$350 seems pretty good for an unfired 94... it's even got that pimp-tastic Toronto cowboy look to it... :wink: Did you buy private, or from a shop?

Does anyone around here know what this commemerative is worth?

Shoot with it and cut the value in Half atleast .... put it up for sale and get me a 30 06 savage ..... hmmmmm

Haha I found that one too... you might be wise to hold on to it... prices will only go up.

Personally, I'm not a huge fan of the commemeratives, but people do collect them!
 
Shoot it.
If it's got the box and paper work and is perfect, it's worth $500. If not, it's one more Win 94 out of a million of them.
The gun shows are full of them.

I know of the exact rifle in a local gun store for the same price. I thought about buying it for a shooter but didn't have the balls to show up at the range with all that polished brass. Also was not sure about the year of production and have been told to stay away from mid 60's Win 94's. From the Marstar ad, i guess it's a 1974.
Instead, bought a like new but ugly 1975 Win 94 for $185 out the door.
 
yes good deal but now what, I don't know how were made but I've seen a few around most are in the box and unfired so as for collector value I think that they are way overpriced and I don't see the price really going up.

I would have to agree with Slash5 here shoot it, keep it clean and oilde dont throw out the box and papers, and the rifle will always be worth more then what you paid for it.

No, I know of one in a shop for the $350 you paid.

If anyone wants it, it's in Elli's in Simcoe, Ontario. Was there on Thanksgiving weekend. Actually, it had some sort of buckskin thing with fringes on the butt stock as well. Looks like new, not sure if it's unfired.

At Haynes auctions (in Alberta) this model usually sells for $375-$500 but only if mint, unfired and with the original box, etc. As a shooter they will sell from $250 to $350.00 depending on condition--the really shiny ones for the lower end and the longer barreled ones at the higher end.

The market for the comemoratives seems fairly flat right now--they were selling for a couple hundred dollars more 3 or 4 years ago.

I say shoot it and and have fun with it.

The commemorative editions are over rated in my opinion. It would be one thing if only 100 or so were made of each design... but thousands? In some editions, over 100,000 "limited" editions were made.

Use it and make it an heirloom.
 
I say keep it and shoot it

and if you are worried about recoil, buy a slip on so it doesn't take the authenticity of it away

or if any of your buddies are a goalie in ice hockey, borrow their chest protector :wink:
