Does anyone have any experience with the side mount scope concept on a winchester "top eject" model 94 ?

Any feedback is appreciated with respect to the effectiveness of the clearence from ejecting shells, height of the sight line, overall "handiness".

I have one and although it works fine the sharp angle the scope points towards the barrel, and that I have to shoot through it with my cheek right off the gun it somehow just doesn't feel quite right. The iron sights still work the same way as before though.

Yep. It's side mounted and puts the scope along the side of the receiver and pointed slightly inwards. The shells eject fine without hitting the scope. I have a 2.5X weaver on mine.

You might have to roll the scope and use the elevation knob for windage, and windage for elevation, in order for the cases to clear the scope. Height is OK. The offset can take a bit of getting used to.

The side mount and detachable scope mount are offset to the left of the top eject. You will need the Weaver reciever base (#3-B or 48412) and the scope mount. The scope mount comes in a short version #49350 or a long mount #49340. This lets you mount a short or long bodied scope. The base stays on your rifle while the scope and mount can be detached or assemled in under a minute without loosing your zero. The only downfall is like "98" says, you have to lift your cheek off the butt a bit to line up the cross hairs. It is still a good system if you are still hunting and you can always use your steel sights. Bob

The scope will still interfere with the ejected shells if the scope is top mounted, and the eye piece will be too far forward to be of much use. the side mount is useful but not the greatest. I used one with a 3x9x Bushnel. Can get tired if you do a lot of shooting, but for a short duration hunt, it fills the bill.

Perhaps a "scout" type forward system might be a better alternative.

Ive never thought of the scout type mount before on a model 94, but it should work if you could get something to mount it properly.

the eye piece will be too far forward to be of much use.

They have long eye relief scopes for scout type rifles so I think that if is mounted forward it should work fine.

There is nothing that makes a Win94 go from zero to f**kin stupid looking in less than 4 seconds more than a side mounted scope.

Maybe so but at least it will have a useable scope on it and seeing as you use the original holes you can convert it back the way it was in no time at all.
