Ever since I bought a Model 94 made in 1949, I've been fascinated by the variations in the M94's. Not just the different versions of the M94, but also the subtle variations over the years among the same version (e.g. differences in buttstock, forend, magazine tube, barrel bands, etc.) Look at any hunt camp gun rack and it seems that no two Model 94 "eastern carbines" are alike.

Does anybody know of a website or some other source that might contain a collection of photos of M94's in its different variations?

Recently I had to walk away from a book at a gun show that had EVERY possible variety and variation of 94s in it.
The guy wanted $50, but it was 1 of only 1000 books printed. :(

.............I highly recommend "The Winchester Model 94 The First 100 Years" by Robert C Renneberg. It is excellent.

...............as for websites, not sure of one that details the various physical differences and attributes.

interesting,i just purchased a model 94 made in 1949:eek: i am also trying to absorb as much information on these little gems also.was never a lever action fan but i think i have just been bitten by the lever bug.the metal has a fair bit of wear from over the years,no rust, bore is perfect and there is 8 little notches in the stock so somebody must have bagged 8 deer with it

Gibbs505,
I also prefer bolt actions for accuracy and horsepower, but I have 5 levers for different kinds of playing. For the most part the levers have more reliable feeding than most bolts and a joy to carry. I grew up with 94s, but for the hunting I do now they would be about as good as a pocket full of rocks. An ice-cream pail full of cast bullet loads is a whole different game though!
