Model 94 Winchester, SN 899597, 26 inch barrel, 38-55

A simple question. Can someone tell me what the twist rate would be for this rifle? From experience, can anyone advise bore diameter?? David

Your rifle was produced in the 1920's so should be the old type .38/55 with 1 in 18 inch twist. I have owned two that I measured and both were .379 diameter. You really should slug your bore as the diameters do vary slightly. Newer production .38/55 ammo generally does not shoot well in the older rifles as it is loaded with .375 diameter bullets that the .375 Winchester used. My 2 cents.

Thanks Mike. We will take your advise. Cast bullets at .375" are keyholing. I suspect they are grossly undersized. I would think that, with all of these rifles being resurrected there would be an abundance of .380 - .382" bullets available but there are not. Still looking. Dave

you might want to think about paper patching bullets of that diameter...

Lyman advertises a mould that casts a 250gr bullet at .380" diameter. That would be the direction that I would head.
