model29-2 44mag age ?

Rings of steel!

Cut 2 inches off the front of the barrel and count the rings;)

All my revolvers are only 1 year old. Worse part is they don't shoot straight without their frontsights:eek:

If you go to S&W's website you can make a request for the history of your firearm. There may be a searchable S&W serial number database online but I haven't seen one yet.

Good Luck looking.

Email S&W the serial #, they should get back to you in a few days with the year of manufacture. 29-2 were made from the 60s - 80s IIRC, mine is a '78.

The 29-2 started production about 1961.
The "diamond insert grip" was deleted in 1968.
The "N" serial prefix started (from S333454) in 1969.
The 6.5" barrel was discontinued (for 6") in 1979.

The 29-3 started production about 1982.

With your serial number your revolver's production year could be narrowed to within two years. (You can PM it if you don't want to post it. You can also XX the last couple of digits.)

S&W's historian, Roy Jinks, will also send you a official factory letter, if you request one.
