I just got one from Tradeex. What a true gem! :dancingbanana: I got the short rifle. I can't believe these are not the hottest milsurp today. A K-98 in .308/7.62x51. I was curious as to why these are not more talked about? pics to come.

How many grooves do they have? I have seen posts saying they have 2 groove rifling left over from 1903A3 rifles?

It's a bright crisp 4-groove. This one is US import marked on the underside of the barrel.

They might heat up now... :D

How much are they going for? I was on their site recently and didn't notice them.

They go for 325 from tradeex. I can't believe basically a k-98 that you can pick up ammo for anywhere is going for that cheap. The one I have has a pristine bore. Absolutely mint!

Well I just got back from shooting it. It shoots about 6 inches high at 65 yards with full blade in the V. I had 3 targets a 4 litre bottle a 2 litre bottle and a 335 ml bottle. Anyways, once I got it on target I had no trouble smashing the little water bottle from 65 yards with it. The wind is blowing about 30-50km from the south here today (directly on my back while shooting), only for that I would have set up a paper target and really see what it really can do. To say I am pleased is an understatement. :)

How do these stack up when compared to German K98K's and Gew98 style rifles, i know Steyr made rifles for Germany at several point of history?? What are the differences besides caliber, between these and the German 98's?

The 1912 rifles are every bit as well made as any K98 or variant.

The Chileans didn't pinch pennies when they bought the rifles. Many moons ago, I was in Golden State Arms and about 20 crates of 1912s came in. They were still new in wrap. I saw one of the rifles after it was cleaned up. Gorgeous.

It came with a matching bayonet and sling and for the princely sum of $75 they threw in a box of 100 surplus cartridges.

These rifles were still in the original 7x57 chambering and considering it was around 1970, $75 was a lot of money for a surplus rifle, unless it was a Garand. I bought two and took them home to BC with me. I sold them both, with accessories and original ammo, about 10 years ago. Mauser prices were just starting to take off but the South American rifles were all considered to be red haired bastards.

The 1912 rifles I now have, shoot like dreams. One is 7.62x51 and one is still 7x57.

For those of us with aging eyes, I suggest you buy the rifles with 29in bbls. The longer sight radius makes it easier to keep the sights in focus on the target.
