"Moderately" priced 1911's?

I have owned a lot of 45's.

Back in 1989 I had a custom built Colt done for IPSC.

It cost me $2600 back then.

It was sold off many years ago as I slipped away from IPSC.

I have shot a lot of 45acp over the last 38 years.

This spring I purchased a Ruger SR1911 for $675.

This dam thing is better that $2600. custom I owned.

I'm 150% pleased with the quality, fit n finish and this sucker shoots.

Best money I have ever spent.

Anyone looked at S&W 1911s? They have external extractors like the SIGs. Comes with the usual custom features and is accurate! Not too pricey either. Under a G should score you a new one.

I wondered about those. i've seen reviews online but there don't seen to be many...(any?) offered by the usual Canadian sellers.

..........not sure about the "fish scale" look on the slide

I just bought a s and w 1911. The sku number is 108284. It has adjustable rear sight , is stainless and out ofthe 3 45s i have owned is the most accurate, The other 2 were a s and w 625 and a sti spartan,It is also the most expensive 1375 plus tax. Im not a great shot but this pistol is almost too easy to shoot accurately, The gunstore took 2 years to finally get s and w 1911 in that were not the fishy e series or the fancy scrolled models. Iwas reluctant to put out 1500 bucks for a pistol until the salesman i really trust said his shoots as well as his Les Baer but im glad i did, My 625 and spartan are long gone but my smith 1911 is a real keeper. You can save 100 dollars if you buy the 108282 model but its missing a few nice features the 108284 has. Check out the reviews, they are all good

I've actually seen some good deals on used Kimbers in your price range. About 2 weeks ago a guy had a Stainless Target II 45 with 100 or so rounds through it for about $950. I already own one or I would have jumped on it. They do come up from time to time.

I couldn't live with the shame of owning one, let alone 3...

Not sure why anyone would give the SR1911 a one star rating. I have one and it has been great. Accurate, reliable, looks good, doesn't have the dumb a--e series 80 safety. My local store has been selling them for around $700.00. In my view you can't go wrong. Just bear in mind that a 1911 is never going to quite as reliable as a good modern gun unless you spend money on tweaking it. Let the flame begin all you 1911 lovers.

Start messing with the reliable, modern pistols, switch some parts, replace the springs and some internal parts and see how reliable they are. Initial fiasco of Glock Gen4 would be a good example. Keep it stock, close to initial specification, use quality magazines and you should be just fine.

SR1911, Remington R1, STI Spartan, the cheaper SAM line and the cheapest Norkie Line (in order of my preference). Why Norkie is included? Because its cheap and a workable pistol. From Marstar, you get a good warranty with extra money to buy ammo. Once you get proficient in shooting a large caliber, sell it and get a better quality of same caliber.
