Modern 12(6) compact pistols that made it into Canada before prohibition?

Preferably ideas that I could carry in the states. I know some compact glocks made it in. I'm a smaller guy and carrying a larger gun isn't appealing, so looking for options that I might track down.

Made in the USA.

There are a few compact 1911s like the Colt Officer's Model or the Detonics Combat Master, and I've also seen the odd Firestar and very rarely a SIG P230...they'd be heavy to carry though. There are 12.6 SIG P228s (I owned one for a bit) and probably some P225s as well, although I've never seen a 12.6 one for sale. The H&K P9S is 12.6 but that's a big pistol.

If you're wanting to buy here and then take to the US later, why not buy a G26 (or whatever your flavour) with a restricted barrel, and replace the barrel with a factory length model when in the US?

Or get to love revolvers... there are lots of 12.6 revolvers in Canada.

Best advice!
Besides, OP, unless you already have 12(6), you can't buy a modern compact pistol with the <4.2" barrels anyways.
So buy whatever baby Glock you want and get the correct barrel when you go down. Just make sure you are ok with the recoil. Little guns in big calibers kick a lot more!
Besides, another hassle is shipping your prohib down to the US. You need a Canadian export AND a separate re-import permit for a prohib firearm. If you don't do this right, you will not be able to bring the gun back to Canada and the Feds would have gotten rid of one more scary gun!

Well there is a few 12/6 Glock 26 and S&W 442 airweight that made it, here's mine :

The Remington MCS is not exactly what i call concealable but...

.

I've always been interested in how the few fellows who've done so managed to upgrade their 12.6 Glocks to more recent frames and slides?

That's actually a pretty good idea... But the prohibited barrel can't be imported so I'd have to leave it in America. I cross by car and don't really have a place to leave it on the other side.

Given that most of the 12(6) pistols are pretty big (and uncommon) looking for a revolver might be wise.

Yeah, I know the logistics aren't easy. Sucks we have to jump these hoops. I can buy 12(6) just don't have anything currently appropriate currently.

Ahh, got it!
The best bet would be to put a WTB up for a prohib. Your most likely purchase would be a Glock which IMO is a great choice anyways. I'm extremely partial to a G19!
Another couple of possible choices would be the compact S&Ws from the late 80s. I don't remember their model numbers anymore but I do recall a really small DA single stack 9mm model. An Officers ACP is a good package or a late 80s vintage PPK. I find the older PPK trigger really heavy and the hammer bite is bad but it would do for a small carry gun. Personally, I would stay away from the likes of Llama and Star but that's just me.
The main problem in our 12(6) category is that, other than the Glock (I think?), most are all metal/ aluminium framed guns which are a lot heavier than our current crop of polymers.
For revolvers, the J framed M36/60, the K framed 2-3" M-10/13/19/66 would be excellent choices for a shoot a little, carry a lot type of gun. These should be easier to find on the EE. Good luck!

Having had both, unless you're set on a sub-compact Glock, a G19 with a restricted barrel is great. The barrel only protrudes slightly, and not enough to interfere with CC at all IMO.

I found the whole ergonomics of the G26 to be awkward. G19 better, G17 best. If you haven't shot a sub-compact, I urge you to do so before slapping down your loot.

Man! Are you on today!! Another agree here!
I have small hands so the 19 is perfect for me. I shoot the 17 just as well. The barrel length for the 19, as Silverado says, is not an issue at all. It's the butt that prints. The little purse gun types are difficult to deploy in an emergency and difficult to aim and shoot well without a lot of practice.

Buy a restricted Glock 19 or 17 and cut the grip length to a Glock 26. The hardest part to hide is the grip, the barrel and slide length hardly matters at all.

I wouldn't trust my life on that...

Some owners have found that with proper grease lubrication of the slide and rails, polishing the feed ramp, proper adjustment of the feed lips for the ammo you will be carrying and timely replacement of the recoil and magazine springs these pistols are reliable.

The issue is getting a Canadian 12(6) into the US with their foreign arms import bans. Otherwise I'd recommend a .380 PPK or Astra Constable.

Personally I'd go with an S&W Model 12 Airweight. US made, six shots, small with a 2" barrel, 20 ounces empty, with stock grips and a Tyler T adaptor it's easy to shoot well especially with its magnificent trigger.

There some Glock 23's - and I've seen a Sig P230. Like a dope I sold my stainless Officers before they brought in the law, so don't have 12.6. The G26 is a bugger to run cleanly, the mags get hung up on changes.

The P7 is a very heavy gun for daily carry. It also needs a really good stiff holster due to its weight distribution. The grip tends to sag outwards if the retention isn't good.
It may look small but definitely not a pocket pistol.
It's a great gun. Extremely reliable. Wish I never sold mine.
