Modern 1911 most similar to the M1911A1 used in WW2

Hey Folks,

Just hoping to get some opinions and thoughts on who is currently making a 1911 that is most like the M1911A1 issued to allied troops during the war.

Inland MFG has a 1911A1 that meets your description (I think...). Have no experience with it though, and I have no idea what availability is like in Canada.

Older Norinco 1911 pistols, are pretty much machined from original drawings.
I can take parts from a old style Norinco 1911A1, and install them in one of my WWII 1911/1911A1 guns.
And have a functioning pistol.

Nice gun yes, but the sights are not even close to an original 1911-A1

Looking at that Inland 1911-A1, it's a pretty d@m close to the original.

Look at Canada Ammo, one of the banner advertisers at top of the page. They still import an almost identical copy of the 1911 Government model and price it at $379, plus taxes.

I've seen and used a couple of those pistols, including a recently purchased one. They all functioned very well with BALL ammunition. Like most government model 1911 pistols they need a bit of ramp polishing and reprofiling to reliably chamber other bullet configurations.

Very slightly. They work better because of the slight modification IMHO.

That was a very typical mod made to GI surplus pistols back in the day, along with cutting down the the corner just above the ejector to stop stovepipes with under powered ammo or light bullets.

Inland has some great pieces by the looks of it, haven’t dealt with them in the past. Do they have a Canadian distributor?

Fit and finish can be a little rough but they're priced accordingly. Still very functional and there is a big Norinco fan-base with these 1911

While I own examples of the big 4 of USGI WWII 1911A1 contact pistols..... Colt, Remington Rand, Ithaca and Union Switch & Signal, I also have an 'unmarked' Norinco 1911A1 which is a pretty close copy:

I guess you did not see that dove tailed front sight, wrong rear sight, wrong hammer!

I have owned a SAM (GI), nice, but the front sight killed it for me.

I'm not trying to be an @ss, just pointing out who makes a d@m close copy.

These mods where not done to Government issue 1911's.

Here is my close copy. (TISAS - Made in Turkey - branded as a REGENT 1911-A1)
I changed out the grips, main spring housing and trigger. (fits my hand better for shotting)
Shoots like a laser beam!

Can’t wait to shoot it, just have to wait for all he silly paper work to show up. Went with a norinco unmarked similar to yours and bought some wood grips to make it look a little more original and classic. Would love a real one but these unmarked norincos seem to be fairly close to the real thing
