modern 7.62x39? BCL, kodiak or other??

Some users have noted needing higher power hammer springs to reliably fire rounds with harder primers.
Thanks for the info; I've heard needing high power hammer springs with other DI-ish platforms, like the CMMG Mutant.

Is PSA / AAC "Soviet Arms" 7.62x39 mm ammo available in Canada? Might be a good option for those who don't want to clean there modernized 7.62x39 mm platform as much, as it is non-corrosive. It also seems it has enough oomph to help avoid malfunctions, as the Military Arms Channel had Norma have some failures to eject on a bubbaed, plastic stock SKS , but work fine with the AAC rounds.

this is pretty cool and i like it, but how much does all the extras cost, not to mention the availability of parts for the t81 seems hard to come by but i could also be wrong

Well the best quality extras aren’t always that cheap, but if you get a solid rifle to begin with, you can build it to your tastes as you go and know that at least you’re investing in a reliable platform. There are lots of decent deals on semi-upgraded t81s on the used market, and a fair few options and upgrades are available these days.

A decent, reliable optic mount is the biggest hurdle (unless you run irons), and that starts with a fixed stock model and a side rail.
Mastermount, 3BarD, Delta Dynamics among others all produce decent quality, dependable accessories and there are always bits to be found on the used market sites.

I do not know about any of these modern ones, most I think are very cool but with the current political climate I, personally, would go for something that is NR, not something that is restricted. Yes the NRs can be made prohib with a stroke of a pen but restricted ones they know you have them.

Absolutely correct, I do plan on a non restricted I should have mentioned this in my original post

Type 81 with modern furniture is the answer, they are the most reliable cheapest option to shoot spam can and not feel bad about it. Lots of modern AK parts can be made to fit and the modding community seems strong. Lots of aftermarket homemade parts online also.

Edit sorry the SKS is the cheapest but Type 81 is 2nd

T81s also have a chrome lined barrel and tool-less takedown in their stock configuration - makes cleaning after corrosive quick and forgiving once you’re familiar with the process.
The main thing with T81s is they are not all built equally. Finish and fit varies from rifle to rifle, as can alignment unfortunately. If you can find a straight rifle, then it is worth investing in. If it’s bent, then you’re polishing a turd and no amount of Picatinny rails and MLOK slots are going to help.
All T81s are non-restricted.

I appreciate the intel, I honestly don't want a type 81, after this intel and other (not to mention they are $1200 for a stock one), I then got to add a new stock, fore grip, sights and what ever else, so as I see it I'm looking at prob around $1800 give or take and that's all on a chance to have a straight rifle.

Dont get me wrong if I was to keep this completely stock it would prob last for ever and shoot no matter how long I left it in the mud. but like I mentioned I want something moderen

There is no report that surplus ammo runs well in M+M M10.

You are mentioning that you like a rifle in 7.62x39 because it is cheaper. It is not, 223/556 is much cheaper in new manufactured ammo. Even the red Norinco is up there with 223/556.
I think CSC has put about 3000 rounds through their range gun and it’s running fine?

Based on that, you are looking at the following in my opinion:

- M10X (Gen 3 seems the best bet)
- CZ Bren
- Maybe the WK-181 (is a Gen 3 coming out?)

All of which - with the possible exception of the WK - will cost you more than a well kitted out T81, and around twice the price of a stock T81. The Bren is the only option in this list with a proven track record to better the T81.
There aren’t many proven semi-autos in 7.62x39 on Canadian NR market that have a modern aesthetic and have a well trodden reputation unfortunately.
If you can afford the Gen 3 M10X, it could be worth a shot, but again, you could get a lot of T81 for that money 🤷

Scratch those prices, just saw the M10x gen 3 is apparently in stock for $1700 at FOC. That might be the most affordable option with at least some ongoing positive feedback

This?

I believe that is a Gen 2, and maybe with Gen 3 internals.
They're cheeper by a bit through CSC.
The Gen 3 is distinct in recognition in that it has holes in the hand guard between the M-loc slots.

It really depends on what the OP or other consumer wants in the rifle.

The M10 comes equipped out of the box with:
- optics rail.
- M-loc slots for accessories.
- Ambi mag release that is well positioned, ambi charging handle, ambi safety (that is useable with the optic mount in place). All good ergos that do not require extra parts or fitment.
- adjustable length of pull butt stock

The T81 at $1300 - 1500 comes bare bones that if one was to upgrade with all of the above comparable features, would likely be as expensive or more so than the M10. One could easily drop $1000 on a T81 in parts ($300-400 for optic solution, $300-400 for stocks, $50 - 100 muzzle device, $100 for revised safety.

If being restricted didn't matter, there are CZ Brens with 11" barrels out there for $2400-2500.

The T81 is decent in its stock configuration, but the cost / benefit starts to loose its footing once one starts throwing parts at it to make it something it isn't.

T81 has proven reliability and civilian version is based on military variant. M10x is a boutique gun bases on compilation of known proven designs and made by small manufacturer with shady past business practices. Of course this might not matter at all for someone.
The only changes I made to my T81 are: mount $105 and magpul AK grip $55. No, wait, I think I put a $10 rubber pad to increase LOP, I will change to paracord though. So, $170 worth of upgrades.
I don't mind changing lower HG but it would only for aesthetics, as I don't use anything that I could mount there. I would never replace upper HG until there's one I can quickly remove in the field without tools.
