Modern Binocs vs my Older Zeiss?

The earlier Nikon RFs and their lenses were built even heavier than Zeiss. BTW, I'd say the Nikon RF is about 50/50 Leica Contax based on the Leica cloth shutter and rangefinder mechanism construction.
yes the Contax had a vertical metal shutter to 1/1250 (going from memory) long base length rfdr... the Contax shutters I tried/owned were never very accurate and occasionally uneven. Only Kominek in Toronto would service them as I recall. Anyway M's, SL, SL2's for Leica and Contarex (any model) for Zeiss would be the goldstandard for quality I think...and of course the Nikon RFDRs .. as people have discovered based on their current prices!!!

The Japanese unauthorized Jenoptem copies in question use much cheaper mounts than the genuine article, even (ack Zeiss afficionados) PLASTIC parts
actually the Jenoptem used plastic baffles - and they were a little shiny vs the matte metal baffles (the Deltrintem) in the objective light path. I purchased several pairs of Deltrintem and Jenoptem .. all from the same source ... they were all genuine with identical leather cases and warranty receipts etc...the Jenoptem were inferior. Giving the choice between a genuine Deltrintem or Jenoptem ... take the Deltrintem.... if the other guy thinks they are the same glass .. let him have the Jenoptem...

You might run across Deltrintem with graticules ... I have never seen a Jenoptem with this feature...fwiw

Yep .. you're going have to drop a grand (for new) anyway to improve on a clean set of Binoctem's...used ... keep an eye out for Nikon "E" series 8x, 30 ... they are very very good and you might find some for around the 200 mark.

good luck... enjoy the old stuff - they are never going to make it like that again!!
