Hello All,

So, here I come climbing out of the Stone Age. I'm looking for some modern (80's forward), reasonably priced, used modern equivalents to the Winchester 1200 Defender. I had my heart set on buying one, as it's pretty much what I want and need: Reliable, good craftsmanship, short barrel, solid wood furniture, takes a beating and keeps on feeding sort of deal.

I admit I'm not at all versed in modern shotguns, however I have had a LOT of people offline tell me to go with a Remington 870. However there seem to be a tonne of models, and all different. I'm looking for something that is basically a replica of the 1200 Defender. Or I might just get another Defender! Not sure yet.

Would like to hear opinions and personal choices for your "close defense" shotgun, why you like it, make, model etc. I had a Dominion Arms Grizzly once. The thing failed to fire out of the box. Was very unhappy, returned it for a refund. I prefer older makes and models in general, not afraid to go back a few decades. (First shotgun I ever owned was a Remington Model 10A Takedown)

Thanks CGN,
Drachenblut

The current incarnation of the Winchester 1200/1300 is called the "SXP", which is available in Defender guise. It's now made in Turkey, but still seems to be a good gun as per the reviews.

It's getting tough to find a newly made polished blue wooden stocked riot gun of any brand any more, you're likely going to have to buy used, and even then you maybe have to swap plastic furniture for wood.

Keep looking if that's what you want they still can be found! Iv recently acquired 2! One is a 3" defender one has a 26" barrel

The defender cost me $225

check out Ithaca shotguns they make a short barrel wooden furniture gun.

None of their currently made riot guns are blued, much less a classic polished blue, they're either Perma-Guard {Melonited} or painted with GunKote or some other type of paint.

Also check out firearms Canada there are a bunch of 1200's on there if you can weed out the retards that want $400 for a 25 year old 12 gauge.
