I've been shooting some C&B Uberti replica 1858's for the past year and enjoying them immensely. Now I'm jonesing for a long arm that uses black powder. And maybe I'm looking for trouble but I'm leaning strongly to going right back to the early days and getting a flintlock.

I've seem the TC guns but somehow I'm of the opinion that it needs to be a full length of wood to more faithfully copy the old guns. I'm looking at some options including those available from http://www.militaryheritage.com/muskets.htm . I'm wondering what other suppliers of historically accurate flintlocks there may be in Canada that deal with other than the nice but higher price Pedersoli offerings. Or at $600'ish as I setting myself up for a dissapointment in terms of quality by looking at the cheaper offerings?

That's where I was a few months ago. I came to the conclusion that you have to be very patient to find a good used one as you describe, especially in the calibre you want. I don't believe you can get a new one for 600 or less, but I may be wrong.
While I found a good looking used pedersoli in 50, I wanted 54 since our other bp is .54, so eventually gave up, and instead bought a percussion JBrowning 54 mountain rifle, and couldn't be happier(I'm a browning guy anyway). Not a flinter, but it'll be one heck of a good m/l for hunting and accurate as all get out.
Be forwarned, lot's of guys tried to peddle me junk at premium prices.
Good luck on your search....patience will be the key.

Have you checked Loyalist arms from halifax area?...lots of flinters with long forestock...
a classic one would be a North West Company trade gun or check the military models, Brown Bess or Tulle...lots of toys!
