Hi,

If any CGN member has details of reliable load data or knows of a website with such info for the old 455 Webley, loaded with modern smokeless powders, please pass this on to me.

Thank you,

There is no reliable source of reloading data that I know of, where "reliable" means publication by a reloading equipment or component manufacturer.

There is info on internet forums. One thing to be careful of with internet data is that there are two different sizes of brass that might be used in the webley 455 pistols - .455 MKII brass and .45acp /autorim brass. If you are loading the 455 MKII brass make sure you don't use data intended for 45acp used in a webley. Doing so is the equivalent of using 300 magnum data in a 30-06.

Maximum pressure for the .455 was/is regulated at about 12,500 psi. A 12000 psi load in the .45acp cartridge can generate 20,000 psi in the .455 MKII cartridge.

Here are my loads for these cartridges for use in webley revolvers. Velocity is from my chronograph and pressure estimates from Quickload.

1. 5.0 gr of Unique with a .45acp case and 265 gr RNHB will generate about 11500 psi and 700-725 fps.
2. 4.4 gr Unique in .455 MKII case with the 265 gr RNHB will generate about 12000 psi and 650-675 fps.

Those are good safe loads but avoid compressing any of the smokelss pistol powders or they will pressure spike. Adjust COL accordingly.

Hi JETHUNTER,

Thank you for the info and advice.

I have looked at the case dimensions and descriptions given in "Cartridges of the world". I also had a few cases Fiocchi which I looked at and the friend who owns the 455 (in a Colt revolver), has some from Fiocchi factory ammo which he fired in his revolver. The psi values are greatly appreciated. The Fiocchi cases are about the same as the 45 GAP, but that cartridge operates at 23000psi, and obviously not loaded with bullets heavier than 230gr. Thank you once again!
