Just been doing a bit of thinking today, And wondered what you guys think the Top 5 modern movie handguns are? Heres my list, I didn't do any research, Lets see how your lists vary

1. 1911, Every movie ever
2. Glock, Seems a pretty steady staple of any movie, Any model and gen of course
3. Beretta 92, pretty much the chosen handgun for most 80's and 90's films but I don't see them too often anymore in new flicks
4. Sig 226, Or other similar models seem to be showing up more and more now days.
5. S&W Revolver, Doesn't matter which model, I would say a smith shows up more than any other revolver in modern flicks.

What do you guys think?

for sure the 1911s and glocks are everywhere. In terms of some iconic movie guns and not necessarily due to frequency of appearance, i'd say:

S&W 29 - Dirty Harry and others
44 automag - Dirty Harry
Wildey 475 - Death Wish 3
Desert Eagle - too many to name
Python - walking dead, but also in many TV shows in the 70s and 80s.

Die Hard and Letihal Weapon are responsible for my love of Beretta 92s.
Robocop introduced me to the Desert Eagle.
Steven Segal always seemed to be using 1911s.
Dirty Harry and his hand cannon lol.
Die Hard 2 also introduced me to Glocks

And I have to give a shout out to Mack Bolan ( I know it's not a movie gun but still.... ) for introducing me to the .44 auto mag ( don't remember ever reading the words Desert Eagle).

I think the OP was asking for real guns.
1. Glock anything!
2. PPK and PPQ - JB films
3. Desert Eagle- every bad guy needs one
4. 1911s- been a while since I've seen a Seagal movie though
5. Beretta 92 FS- Die Hard and Lethal Weapon really did it for this gun!
I think you nailed my top 5 list right there. But I might have to replace the PPK with the Bren 10 but then again that's a TV gun not a movie gun

Miami Vice! He switched to a 4506 soon after. I think they had issues getting mags for the 10.
You must be old Dr.K!

Interesting. I didn't know they switched to the 4506. PPK and the Bren 10 are definitely high on the list of iconic film and tv guns.

Companies were going to remake the Bren 10 and the original Automag. Too bad they didn't happen. That would have been cool. Although with the U.S. economy heating up, it will get easier to finance projects like those.

Gdawg, it could have been a 645? But definitely a S&W SA in .45.
Yeah, VLTOR was going to remake the Bren 10 but I guess their military contracts were more lucrative.

I think the thing that annoys me the most is when you see a bunch of FBI agents running around with glocks, snub nose revolvers and a bunch of other things. I thought they were issued SIGS. Like you are going to pass the 50 yard qualification with a 2" barrel revolver.

I think your list is pretty good

Glock
Sig226/220
1911
Desert Eagle (drug guys)
And S&W revolvers
Oh throw in M4's
