Has anyone used a modern , so to speak, shotgun barrel for making a Flint lock smoothbore?
I have read a bit about it, and have some old Coey shotguns that might make good donors.
Any insight would be apreciated.
Pete
If you have a machinist to build some plugs for you and ream out the choke they should work fine. A little plain compared to purpose built barrels that have 1/2 round or bands etc. but that can be fixed to.
I know some builders who got a deal on some modern steel SXS barrel blanks and they made very nice ML's.
You would probably be just as far ahead to start with a TC smoothbore barrel with screw in chokes. I am pretty sure that TC makes them and definitely have seen people shooting single barreled muzzle loading shotguns with screw in chokes. While the barrels can probably be used provided they stand up to proof charges after breach plug installation, unless you can do the work yourself, if may be cheaper or almost as cheap to buy the barrel and breach premade
