Lol don't get this thread destroyed.

Lol I was waiting to see who he could bait with his 22LR.

The shortest ATRS Modern Sporter, quietest too I would bet :D

I’ll also have a 300blk, 9mm, 762x39, and 223/556 Upper. Maybe 2 lowers. As funds become available of course.

I won’t take up anymore room in this awesome thread.

I’m doing a 6.5 Grendel and a.223 upper. Here is what’s going in the Grendel

Ballistic arms 20 inch barrel
Odin works BCG
Midwest industries mlok 15” handguard
CNA milspec buffer/spring kit
BCM gun fighter charging handle
BCM pnt trigger assembly
TNA gas tube
TNA lower parts kit
2a armament titanium gas block
SBI hex brake
Magpul Moe Grip
Magpul moe slk stock

I don't know enough about building black rifles yet, so I'm going to snoop here and steal everyone else's ideas.

I want it to be light and accurate. It may just ride around on the bike/snowmobile with me once in a while......because it can.

I have a 70's manufactured Colt M16a1 parts kit. I already used the upper for a Colt 733 clone, so the rest of it will be perfect for my MS.

The parts kit didn't come with a barrel either, but I have a Green Mountain M16a1 barrel, chrome line, 1in12 twist. FSB is already mounted.
I found a detachable carry handle that has a1 style sights as well.

I'm glad you asked. Here's the pictures of my spreadsheet that I have going for it. I plan on having two uppers - one in .223 Wylde that will be an ultra-lightweight upper (hoping for a 5 LB fully assembled rifle, naked!):

The other will be for hunting and thus chambered in 6.5 Grendel:

And here's what I will be putting on it as soon as I get it in my hands! I'll have to buy some other parts to create the lightweight lower for my ultimate 5 LB build in the furture, and I won't be hunting for a while so I'll be using the .223 Wylde version first.
I'll be using these parts since these were originally allocated for an SLR build, but I decided to switch to the Modern Sporter for many reasons. Might as well use em for now.

This will be my first build, so I know almost nothing. I'm taking lots of notes in this thread. I just know I want 18.6" in 223 and for the entire rifle to be relatively light (8ish lbs)

Question: What is the difference between mid-length and rifle-length gas system? I have googled a bit, and got mixed results. Which would be preferable for an 18.6" barrel?

Rifle length will give you the best reliability.

For the 7.62x39 would you only need a specific 7.62x39 bolt and barrel? Is there anything else that needs to be done to the feed ramps etc?

So what's the deal with 6.5 Grendel bolts? In my internet wanderings It has been shown to be an incredible round. (In my opinion the ideal intermediate cartridge. Or at least thus far.) But the bolts look incredibly fragile. Has anyone made a proprietary bolt/barrel extension yet? I know NEA did something along those lines with their 7.62x39 guns.

Gonna strip a lot of parts off one of my ARs for my 223 build and then gonna get a second upper for a 6.5 build.

Subbed for ideas.

A lot of guys go with the JP bolt.
