Modern Sporter - Build Discussions

Nothing wrong with krylon, if all they want is a color change. Some people pay to have their firearms coaked with cerakote to intentionally look used and worn, that's the firearms equivalent of buying pre ripped jeans...

Everything fit with zero issues, except Both of the grip screws I had were to long for some reason. Nothing a cutting wheel couldn't fix :-0

^^^ looking good. It's going to be a painful wait for uppers to arrive.

I'm still undecided if I want my lowers shipped now or just wait for the uppers to be made. The wait may be easier if I don't have my lowers to play with.

I’ll help you :)

Imagine the liberals along with the rcmp decide they have to stop this and walk into arts shop and say ... we are shutting this place down effective emedietely ? Then you would not get your upper or lower !!! Aaaaaaaah !!! Get what you can while you can ahahahaha :)

Here is what I was looking to put into this rifle:

Law Tactical Folding Stock Adapter
Maple Ridge Armoury (MRA) ACE Ambi Safety Selector
Ambi Mag Catch
Bolt catch
Bolt catch plunger
Bolt catch roll pin
Bolt catch spring
Buffer retainer
Buffer retainer spring
Hammer/trigger pin x2
Pivot/Takedown pin detent x2
Pivot/Takedown pin detent spring x2
Gas tube roll pin
MIAD Grip in OD ….. I have no idea if type 1 or 2 fit the modern sporter better…what do you recommend?
Enhanced Trigger Guard
Radian Raptor charging handle
Trigger Tech AR-15 Trigger – Adaptable model set to 2 lbs
A 6.5 Grendel II Bolt Carrier Group for AR15/M16…unsure on manufacturer…what would recommend?
MRA Extended Takedown/Pivot Pins
Buffer Tube Kit
MRA V1 Hand Guard
MRA Gas Block
MRA Black Gas Tube
Dust Cover
MRA V1 M-Lok Hand Guard – Finished in Olive Drab (OD) to match the Magpul OD UBR Stock
MRA 18.6" match stainless barrel with straight flutes - 6.5 Grendal with black finish
MRA Defiant Stainless 6.5 Grendal Muzzle Brake with black finish
JP Silent Capture spring and buffer

I have a Magpul UBR stock in OD sitting in my parts bin I would like to use. I also have ARMS 40 sights, a GG&G mount for a Vortex Viper 2-10X32 MRAD Illuminated Reticule scope for this rifle as well.

Im considering having ATR or TNA build this one, and do my second upper myself.

Jp is the only logical choice for a 6.5 grendal bcg

why is that?

Its the only one that lasts. It's built out of superior materials compared to others. Every forum I've read about the grendal says all problems with 6.5 bolt lugs breaking off or the bolt breaking or the extractor pin holes breaking are solved by a jp bolt. Is it bullet proof no but it's the closest thing you can get.

Okay. Good to know. I will look into the JP BCG. Thank you.

I had not though of it from that prospective, but am happier having mine at home in my safe to fondle when I wish. Things can happen not that I wish anyone any bad luck but shops do get broken into or catch fire or..... I suppose the same could be said for it being at home, but I still feel better having my stuff at my place.

Gotta agree on the JP bolt, have over 1500 rounds through my MV 6.5 Grendal and not a single hiccup. My buddy had his 6.5 break several bolts until he switched to the JP.
I have no idea what they do differently but whatever it is is works.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is not the lower useless with out the upper in this case since they are proprietary designs? i.e. Only an ATR Modern Sporter Upper will work on a Modern Sporter lower.

Just picked my lower up from the post office, and the only way I could be happier is if there was an upper in the box as well. The anodizing is perfect and not a single tool mark on the exterior. Once I get home I'll be installing what I can and trying a few mags in it, but as far as initial impressions go this is a home run. Thanks ATRS great work!

Received mine. It's a quality piece of kit. All lower parts installed without any issues and the anodizing is flawless. The magwell is noticeably looser than my Aero AR15 lower, and mags may have a little bit of rattle with an installed upper, but this remains to be seen. All mags drop free without any issues and the slight rocking movement will likely not affect functionality whatsoever. Overall, extremely impressed with the quality of this lower receiver and anxiously waiting to slap the upper on it!
