Modern Sporter - Build Discussions

Installed the trigger last night in my lower, the trigger pin turns in the lower but the hammer pin does not...is that normal? Using ALG Defense ACT trigger with supplied pins.

Have you "mic'ed" the pins to see if they are in fact .154"?
Even if the pins do rotate they are supposed to be held in place by the trigger/hammer springs to prevent them from walking out.
Let us know how you fare.

Received my lower yesterday. Attempted my first build last night. Very successful I must say. I did buy the AR assembly block, wrench, tools.
Few notes to pass along. I did have an NEA ambi safety, installed it and it was too wide. Which caused play side to side. So I installed the BCM safety that came in my LPK , fit perfect. The captured safety spring install was a breeze. One tip, I measured the spring and gripped it in my pliers then held my hand and pliers inside a box to contain the spring when I cut it( learned this the hard way after watching the first attempt fly across the garage)The Sporter does assemble with less springs and doo-dads than a traditional AR which makes it easier for a novice. I had YouTube on my phone watching tips for assembly.
Very pleased with the quality and fit/finish of the lower. It’s wearing a BCM lower parts and furniture. All fit tight and precise. Bring on the Upper.

Hey ,
What are the standard lenght of the pistol grip screw?

I have two , both measures 1 inch in lenght but neither will thread in far enough to tighten either of my pistol grips.

Appears that they are at least 3/8 inches to long.

I had to put a few extra flat washers on mine to make up the space. I could have cut it off with the hacksaw but I’ll just buy a shorter screw at some point. Looks like 1/4-28 thread or 6mm 1.0. I didn’t have a bolt gauge to confirm.

Thanks
I used a 3/8 plastic spacer.

1/4-28x1" Allen head screw or Phillips srews. They are not 6mm metric!

Secondly there are helicoil repair kits to assist owners who have stripped the threads.

I am still waiting for my LPK and some other things...I ordered it about two months ago...

Anyway... the upper won't be ready till December ...

That might be as rare as hens teeth, around here :)
I’ll see what I can come up with, but the spacer works fine.

I doubt that. Fastenal carries a variety of them, a lot of lower parts kits come with them. The ones that are in LPKs and come long, I think it's like ordering action screws for a Remington 700. They usually come long, because it's easy to cut them down.. but if you've ever tired to stretch a bolt that's too short... whole other story.

And that being said, absolutley nothing wrong with the washer or spacer system either. Long as your grip is holding firm with no wiggle, life is good.

Hey Shaun, whats the type of handguard you guys have on that display model in post #1 of the thread? And where can I buy one.
