Modern Sporter - Build Discussions

Seriously though, after handling a sub 5lb AR, it really messed me up :) , Having said this, I never shot it, but everything i see on pewtube are smiles and joy
If its civilian reliable, why the hell not, especially for a .223,
How is recoil on the 6.5 Grendel AR comparatively? Multi caliber use is prob the reason for the Sporter specs? Will 6.5 Grendel blow up a V7 enlightened style billet receiver?

I don't know about you but I would NOT want to experience a catastrophic failure with something like this beside my face.

That's taking it to extremes but I think there is a lot of room for milling the lower. I probably wouldn't want to tamper too much with the upper because that's all that stands between the operator and an angry BCG/barrel.

But the lower could be reworked quite a bit because it's not really required to withstand a lot of explosive pressure. I suspect the reason it looks the way it does is for over-the-top military levels of destructive testing, and, of course, production cost. If I were to do anything I would skeletonize the magwell sides.

You and me both!!
Besides that is just about thee most hideous AR set I have ever seen. I thought Jese James stuff was butt ugly, but that there takes the cake!!

Weight is both your friend and enemy depending on what you are doing and it is way easier to add weight than take it off. For competitive shooters there is a sweet spot, transitions vs. settling for a 400+ m shot. Too light and you loose time on the long shots, too heavy and on some of the real serious run 'n gun stages and you will feel it.

Hey if you want to trim unnecessary weight the forward assist is a great place to start lol.

Too late. I already ordered it. I don't think the weight of a forward assist upper is going to be noticeably more than a slick side upper. And of course I'm going to be using a titanium plunger, because I'm a rich fat guy.
