This is a more comprehensive review of my Modern Sporter build and range results. Had it for around 3 months now. Tried some different types of ammo. See below for some results. The goal of this build was a rifle for all seasons here in NL. So I bought a Cmmg 22 conversion kit to use as a small game/plinker in addition to a range/ coyote / woods walk gun.
To my dismay the Cmmg 22 conversion didn’t fit. But not to worry. Atrs to the rescue. They modified my cmmg bolt to fit my Modern Sporter and it still fits my AR. Tested today and ran flawless with cheapie Golden bullets. It ran 150-200 rounds perfect. The only hiccup was one Double feed. But I’m seeing that as a mag issue.
Regards to 5.56 it is 100% reliable. I have around 3-400 through it now. Started off on a bad foot as the initial buffer tube seemed to be out of spec and too short. The bcg couldn’t retract far enough. Replaced with a Stag and resolved that.
Parts list is as follows: Norinco 20” barrel, bcg, buffer/tube is Stag, LPK is BCM , stock/grip are Bcm, brake is Faxon, rail is Troy vtac, optic is Vortex Crossfire 1-4, also I have a stubby forward grip , Olight light and mount I keep in the bag for when you never know.
Here is the setup I keep in my case, it’s a self contained system i think.

This is the modified cmmg bolt next to a Stag bcg.

100 yard groups , wind was at my back around 40kph. Pleased with the Frontier ammo.

Some 200 yard groups with Norinco surplus. Keep in mind I’m using a 4 power optic

Finally some testing with the Cmmg 22 kit at 50 yards. I’d like it a bit better. So I’ll fool with it some more. But it’s definitely capable for small game at 20-40 yards.
