Modern Varmint performs flawlessly at Surefire World Multigun Championship

Another thumbs up.....also I am at a loss as why individuals spent $300 on an SKS but C'est le vie. What ever floats your boat purchase what you want even if $4000 or $300 as long as it keeps you shooting.

So have you priced out a Les Baer AR? My NRA match was over $4000.00 Canadian by the time it came in, less optics. Our southern brothers always are more amazed that we even have guns. I have taken my AR and Modern Hunter into the USA and spent more time explaining that, yes we have guns up here, no we don't live in igloos, no the queen does not live in Winnipeg and that we have provinces not states. AND that our health care HAS a cost to it!! Just like theirs does, just not the options they have.

I just don't get it with guys on the forums always whining about the cost of a very high end custom "built only for Canada" gun. Very little has been said about the huge risk that ATRS took in this venture, I imagine if these guns had gone restricted we would have 1 less gun manufacturer in Canada to deal with.

Sure they are expensive, quality and uniqueness always is just like the high end US made stuff, especially when you figure in the exchange rate we are currently having to live with, but good God get over the short vision and try to understand these guys have made a gun that is non restricted and rivals some of the best the US makers have to offer as was shown in Beerbarons video.

No I never priced out crazy expensive AR's.
I build mine using the lower priced of the higher quality manufacturers. It's a semi auto battle rifle design to me not a race gun. I still end up with an accurate and always reliable semi auto mid range AR just like any other that have the really really expensive roll marks on the lowers.
I'm not whining. It's just unfortunate in this country that manufacturers have to risk bankruptcy to venture a new design, still be at the arbitrary classification of the RCMP after that and then have to charge $4K a rifle to recuperate costs and justify sales at that sticker price in our oppressed gun market. All this to build a non restricted modified AR to get around our ridiculous laws.
It sucks ass for the companies up here who have to take the risks to make them as well as the potential customers who will never buy one because of the sticker. Just unfortunate all around is all.

agreed!!!!

It's a $3350 rifle, not $4k, let's get that squared away right off the bat. Also, they don't need to justify the price, that's just what it costs to produce a quality product of unique design in small numbers. I've been to their shop, I've owned their product. There is not a fleet of $100k trucks out front and they do have some beautifully made rifles. They're in business to make money yes, but if you think it's possibly to produce superiorly machined components for any industry for less I suggest you open up a shop, you'll be raking in the money if you can make that magic happen.

How does the MH compare to the Les Baer AR accuracy wise?

How does the MH compare to the Les Baer AR accuracy wise?

This is a MV thread, and from what I have seen, high end AR's and the MV are comparable, both price and quality wise.

The MH has proven to be equally capable to its AR counterpart with a skilled marksman, but that has been largely overshadowed with the stigma made by the handful of rifles from the first batch that had the issues with cam pins, and the slough of shooters like myself who are not familiar with precision or more specifically precision gas guns.

That seems like a lot of fun to do. The range of different marksman skills needed and being able to switch around and recalibrate your self must need quite a bit of practice.

Hey it's a cool design. Don't get me wrong. I like the modifications.
Primarily the receiver left side cocking handle ala FN FAL.
My biggest gripe about the AR platform is the cocking handle location.
It's not terrible but it's awkward.
Anyhow, I'm not bashing the rifle. I'm sure it's great. It just sucks that we don't have a non restricted black rifle that 90% of the people can afford in this country because of our laws and s**t market is all.

I'd buy one in a heartbeat if i could run cheaper ammo through it. I work on the road and dont have time to hand load, and shoot too aften to run expensive ammo.

I'm mostly running American Eagle FMJ through mine and getting MOA groups with it. You can't get much cheaper than that other than Norinco ammo.

Really? If i could get Moa out of bulk ammo id be more than happy. Hmmm. Maybe the MV is the NR black rilfe i need in my life. Id love to support Alberta Tactical, if i could.

Mine will mostly be fed PMC 55gr and 62gr as that is what I have in stock. Bulk should shoot fine as long as the primers are not to stiff. Obviously you should not expect bulk to shoot great like match or handloads, but if you find some that does above average than great!

Hard to say yet as I have not worked up loads for the Varmint. Shooting AE223 55 gr fmj ammo out of both to keep it a fair comparison both seem to deliver 1 moa consistently.
I am hoping the 69 gr SMK will work well in the Varmint as well as the Baer so as to keep bullet stock to 1 bullet type.
I am hesitant to shoot the handloads I have worked up for the Baer in another rifle due to the possibility ofchamber dimensions being different.
Hopefully I can get some loads worked up in the New Year to really get an idea of how the varmint stacks up. At least i won't "have to" go to the range for that, I can shoot the varmint at buddies place just outside of town.
