I'm still new to rifles and scopes but am trying to put together a combo for hunting use. I've got an opportunity to purchase an older Schmidt and Bender scope with West Germany stamped on it. From my research online, Schmidt and Bender kept marking their products West Germany into the early 90s but its safe to say that the scope is at least 25 years old if not much older. I've read that lens coatings have improved dramatically in recent years, allowing for much brighter optics.

How do you folks think this old S&B would perform next to a similar current production Vortex or Nikon product in the $300-500 range? Are there any other advantages to a modern scope other than warranty and repair considerations? Is the S&B as durable? My apologies if these are dumb questions with obvious answers...

Lol, a 3-5 hundred dollar Nikon or vortex wouldn't hold a candle to ANY Schmidt &bender .Regardless of age!

Hah - Ok feel free to bump up the budget then... at what price point would current glass from Nikon or Vortex (if ever) equalize?
