I started a thread a couple days ago regarding this issue. I was making my own with a 5/16" x 32 tap from FL sized brass. I found that the best drill bit to use was a 7/32 to get the initial hole. I was doing mine with a hand drill and albeit did tap fairly well it was a little bit canted when on the gauge itself. I would recommend doing this operation on a drill press.

Ive got a 5/16 by 36 tap here. I think a 9/32 will work for a drill .
"...would I be better off..." You'd be better off not bothering with it at all. The manufacturers are forever coming out with 'tools' they think are indispensible. This is one of 'em.
Where would a good spot be in Canada to find a Hornady Modified 308 Case? Or would I be better off making my own?
Thanks
Could some please school me on this Modified 308 case, what are you actually doing?
David
